Washington forfeited Cox Lake Taylor In past seasons, Kellam's junior varsity wrestling team has been one of the strongest teams in atheletic competition. Kellam's 1971 junior varsity wrestling team, which compiled a favorable 8-4 record for the season, was no exception. Commenting on the performance of certain team members. Coach Gregor said that the best records on the team were sported by co-captains Tim Terry and Kirk Upton and predicted that both Terry and Upton, along with team members James Horne and Isom Young, would move up to varsity competition next year. Special recognition was also given to team members Conrad Eiban, who wrestled well against several varsity opponents this year, and to Gene Bunn. It has been predicted that both Eiban and Bunn should be strong competitors next year. 2 1 . l

'T' Kellam's 1971 boy's gymnastics team, coached by Mr. Richard Perceful posted a 2-3 record for the season, losing to Kempsville, and in a tri-meet, to South Hampton. Superior team members this year were David Hawkins, lim Horne, co-captain Craig Davis, and captain Tom Leahy. Hawkins and Horne excelled on the side horse, and Davis in floor exercises, in horizontal bar, and in longhorse vaulting. Davis placed fifth on the trampoline and Leahy twelfth on the parallel bars at the state meet last year. In order to compete in the state meet, gymnasts from this area must place at least fifth in their event at the Eastern District Elimination Meet. These high qualifications necessary in order to compete in the state meet show the high degree of excellence that gymnasts Torn Leahy and Craig fi I X 9x Q. i db Davis have worked for and attained.
