Hockey Places Two On All-Stars Team The 1971 season for Cirl's Field Hockey was a building one more than anything else. Kellain's team did, however, achieve a tie for fourth place in the district. The Kempsville game was their best game because of the adverse conditions under which they played. First Colonial saw the team field its worst game as a result of poor team organization and numerous misses of chances to score. Two of the most valuable players were Terrie Sawyer for the defense and Wendy Howell for the offense. Debbie Payne contributed the most points for the entire season with games being played on Wednesday afternoons. Susan Bryant, Wendy Howell, and Terrie Saw- yer led the 1971 team as tri-captains under the sponsorship of Miss Dot DuRant. Several members of the team were picked as All Stars: Terrie Sawyer, center halfback for the first teamg Debbie Payne, center forward, selected for the sec- ond teamg and Wendy Howell, right wing . awarded an honorable mention. The annual hockey award went to Wendy Howell, Terrie Saw- yer, and Susan Bryant. Prospects for the up-coming 1972 season are brightened by the remaining presence of players Terrie Sawyer, Karen Bryant, Debbie Payne. and Kris Laue.
