“
We, the members of the PANTHER STAFF, take great pleasure in presenting the 1957 edition of the K.C. S. yearbook to you, the faculty and the student body. We have endeavored whole-heartedly to make this yearbook one of which we all will be proud. We hope that this edition will bring as many fond memories to you as it will to us. of the honor, we, the class or Mrs. Eleanor A. Spaulding has years, she acted as our class advisor. We only wish we could do more to express our heartfelt thanks to one who has given us so good a start on life's journey. 7n TTlemorij of •‘rincipaf’s Message “SI I have been impressed with the ability of the Senior Class. They have worked well to- gether and planned programs against odds that would have discouraged others. I hope you have learned from these experiences that suc- cess is the result of hard work, co-operation, planning, and ambition. Put the four in any order of importance you wish, but never do without them. Edward W. Long Supervising Principal Superintendent's JKessaye Congratulations and Best Wishes to the 1957 Senior Class of the Keeseville Central School. It is my wish that you may have a successful life and always merit the citizen- ship which is your great inheritance. Everest T. Allen District Superintendent of Schools, Clinton Co. SADIE BIGELOW ■ .. s it-u' lrt iV pk . A% ' ' What Kind of Person Are You? There are two basic types of people in the world: the shortsighted and the farsight- ed. The shortsighted person says, Charity begins at home. ” The farsighted one adds, But does not end there. ” Shortsighted says, A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. Farsighted answers, What kind are in the bush and can I get them? Short- sighted says, Thus I have been taught. Farsighted asks, Is this teaching true? Short sighted says to you. Live in a town and be a narrow businessman. Farsighted replies, Live in the world and draw upon the richness of all for the enlarging of your life. CODY There Will Never Be Another As we, the class of '57, leave the halls of our alma mater, we recall the advent and departure of many classmates, the memories of fun and hard work shared at various class functions, the worries of uncompleted assignments and crammed-for tests, and the great fun we've had during our few short years at Keeseville Central. Twelve years ago, in 1945. three members of our present class trudged up the hill to begin their education: Henrietta Bishop, Justin Earle, and Charles Gurnsey. That year, under the leadership of Mrs. Fisher, the first and second grade presented a play entitled, Tom Thumb's Wedding. The following year, in second grade, they were joined by Carol Baker from Ballston Spa. Two years later, in fourth grade, the class was enlarged by one member when Ann Bolton came to us from Port Kent. A former classmate of Ann's, Audrey Beardsley, came in the fifth grade and in grade six. another Port Renter, Eugene Morrow, joined forces enlarging the class of 1957 to seven present members. This year, under Mr. Connell, we presented a minstrel which was produced with the assistance of the fifth grade and our former teacher. Mrs. Benoit. In the seventh grade, Joanne Ford and Russell Smith came from Ciintonvilie. The following year our class was enlarged by our new members, Barbara Gaiston. Beverly Mayo, and Charlene Twa :rom St. John's Academy and Robert Riani from Immaculate Conception. This year our home room teacher was Mr. Stamboni. In 1953, we became freshmen and were joined by Gary Latourelic. Warren Martin, and Billy King from St. John's Academy; Carolyn Pfohler, Betty Holt, Elaine Davey. Alan Holt, Peter Gordon, Edward Gray, Richard Smith, and Colin McDooough from Immaculate Conception. This year we were guided by Mrs. Spaulding and Mrs. Hoskins and elected the following class officers: President, Richard Smith; Vice President, Phyllis Prescott; Secretary. Carol Baker; Treasurer, Barbara Gaiston; Student Council Representatives. Charlene Twa and Colin McDooough. In our sophomore year, we were joined by Jack Craig from Au Sable Forks and Ben- jamin Lopez from Minevilie. We elected class officers as follows: President, Gary Latoureile; Vice President, Henrietta Bishop; Secretary, Carol Baker; Treasurer. Elaine Davey. Carol Baker was elected to the office of Secretary of the Student Council and representatives were Justin Earie. Henrietta Bishop and Colin McDooough. Under these executives and under the able guidance of Mr. Cook and Mrs. Spaulding, we undertook our first project to raise money - a Christmas dance. This proved to be a great success. Also, during this year the first Student's Day was held and the following students were selected to represent the respective teachers: Carol Baker, Mrs. Bigelow; Elaine Davey, Mrs. Baber; Joanne Ford, Librarian; Richard Smith, Miss Selmer. During our junior year, many of our most treasured activities were undertaken. Mr. Cook and Mrs. Spaulding were again our class advisors and the officers elected were: Justin Earle, President; Henrietta Bishop, Vice President; Carol Baker, Secretary; Phyllis Gilroy, Treasurer. This year we were joined by four new members, namely, Joanna Callanan from Mount St. Mary's Academy in Burlington, Vermont; Cathy Murphy from D'Youville Academy in Plattsburgh; Phyllis Gilroy from Waterford High School, and Frank Bum. Some of the activities sponsored were the magazine drive, the Junior Prom, a junior supper, a minstrel and this year we ordered our long-awaited class rings. This year, too, we were honored by having three members of our class elected to fill offices in the Student Council: Colin McDonough, President; Carol Baker, Secretary; Bill King, Treasurer. At last, as the school bells of September, 1956, began to toll, the class of '57 be- gan its final lap on the journey to graduation. We were, of course, anxious to start the year's activities. We elected the following officers: President, Henrietta Bishop; Vice President, Colin McDonough; Secretary, Carol Baker; Treasurer, Phyllis Gilroy. This year the entire lot of Student Council offices were filled by seniors: President, Colin McDonough; Vice President, Bill King; Secretary, Carol Baker; Treasurer, Henrietta Bishop. The first and most time-consuming project of the year was the edition of our yearbook. Shortly after school began we decided on the production of Deadly Ernest as the class play. Its cast included Alan Holt, Cathy Murphy, Joanna Callanan, Barba- ra Galston, Carol Baker, Frank Bum, Charlene Twa, Phyllis Gilroy, Bill King, Richard Smith, Justin Earle, Mickey Santor, Audrey Beardsley, and Joanne Ford. At a class meeting we decided to have a Christmas Ball, which was held on December 21. During the year we sponsored a supper, a benefit movie, a food sale, and a dance. Finally, on the morning of April 22, the class of '57 boarded a train for its hard-worked-for and long-awaited class trip to New York City. The trip over, most of the activities and fun shared and over, but long to be re- membered, and our funds almost depleted brings us to the solemn occasion of GRADU- ATION. On June 21, the class of 1957 will climb the steps to the stage for the last time and be together to bid fond farewell to the faculty, classmates, and, lastly, to our alma mater. CLASS PROPHECY 1957 The date is June, 1966, the scene is the Hotel New Yorker where the class of 1957 is holding its reunion. Multi-millionaire Peter Gordon is sponsoring our reunion. He recently obtained his fortune by striking oil io his father's sand pit. Eugene Morrow, former boxing champ, has generously taken time out to act as our bouncer for tonight. He left his winning gloves to a boxing kangaroo. Joanna Callanan has become a syndicated columnist for several Hollywood papers. Commenting on the local news she says, The REX has the best movies in town. Edward Gray and Benny Lopez have decided to enter the Holy Orders. They have taken the Paupers’ Oath and they are now serving as missionaries in Siberia. Henrietta Bishop and Joanne Ford, both doctors, have recently completed a tonsillectomy on a Harkness mosquito. Phyllis Gilroy, renowned designer, is noted for her fabulous clothing, modeled by the Quantocks. Have you ever wondered what's behind the Green Door? It's bookie, Alan Holt, taking bets on anything from flea circuses to bull frog races. Ann Bolton and Betty Holt have both become devoted nuns of the Dominican Order. Salesman Bob Riani took time off to come from South Africa where he has been selling kiss proof lip- stick to Ubangi women and elevator shoes to the Pygmies. A telegram just arrived by mule train stating that Frank Bum and Justin Earle would not be present. It seems that they got lost in the Harkness Mines where they have been prospecting for uranium for the last ten years. Elaine Davey is a successful history teacher on a Navajo reservation in New Mexico. She is happily married to Chief Pain-in-the-neck. Gary Latourelle has become a public relations expert. He has recently returned from a trip to such dis- tant places as Sciota, Harkness and Wiggle Town. The former Barbara Galston has been touring the United States and Canada with her husband's band - that of Jimmy Lancto. Meanwhile back at the ranch, all the little Lanctos are busy waiting for the new arrival to complete their own six piece band. Russell Smith says, There's no business like show business. It has become every girl's dream to be- come one of his fabulous Can-Can dancers. Richard Smith is now moderator of the famous Smith Smarties quiz kids. To qualify, the kids must be five years of age or under and graduates of Yale. Cathy Murphy has a position on the Jackie Gleason Show as one of the June Taylor Dancers. Soon she is to be Mrs. Jackie Gleason, Jr. Then the girls will be known as the Cathy Gleason Dancers. Billy King is a Genetic Professor. He crossed a kangaroo with an alligator and got an alligator with a pouch. Carol Baker, after winning the Mrs. America title, became Honorary Queen of the Rose Bowl for ten consecutive years. Warren Martin is unable to be here because he is in California employed as a personal real estate broker for Mrs. Eleanor A. Spaulding. Beverly Mayo has recently secured a position with the Texas Cow Girls, world famous basketball team. She set a new record by scoring 79 points in one game; she also made one foul shot. Charlene Twa made use of her last name T. W. A. and World Airlines. Jack Craig is head of the OLD CRAIG BOURBON CORPORATION. His talents were discovered while he was corking bottles at a distillery in Louisville, Kentucky. Dick Passino is an indispensable disc-jockey over WIRY. He has shocked the nation by playing only the platters recorded by that intoxicating hillbilly singer, Charles The Craze Gumsey. Carolyn Pfohler is chief secretary of the R. B. Chain Stores throughout Keeseville. She is soon to be- come a joint owner. At last through the door comes Colin McDonough. It seems that he was detained by the long line of screaming girls trailing after him. In all fairness we should mention his valet, Elvis Presley. We suppose you have all read the latest thriller, THE CORPSE IN THE GREEN SNOW. We hope you noticed Audrey Beardsley's name on page 11,738. She got her start by writing the class prophecy a position as general secretary to Trans- of 1957. P nV a Back row, left to right: Colin McDonough, Peter Gordon. Harry Klages.
