Dedication It is truly an honor to dedicate the 1 80 K.C.S. Year- book to a most dedicated em- ployee, Mr. Richard Hartson. Mr. Hartson became an em- ployee of our school district 32 years ago and was a member of the Class of 36, the first graduating class from our pre- sent school building. Mr. Hartson is presently our Head Custodian, a bus dri- ver, a certified examiner of school bus drivers, and is in charge of maintaining personnel files of all drivers for D.O.T. review. Several times each year he becomes an instructor and teaches the three hour bus driving refresher course to our bus drivers and substitutes. Mr. Hartson's four children all attended K.C.S., graduated from our school, and have gone to pursue post-secondary education. Our school and community have seen some outstanding charac- teristics and qualities in this fine citizen, for he is an ex- cellent worker, energetic, cheerful, personable, -and methodized in performing his duties. He is a man who takes a great deal of pride in everything that he does. We take a similar pride in Mr. Hartson and the exceptionally fine condition that our 45 year old school building is in. We are very fortunate to have Mr. Hartson as an employee of our school and sincerely hope that he will consider serving us for several more years. 1 Memoriam On behalf of the entire school family, past and present, the Board of Education of Keene Central School expresses its sorrow at the passing of Doctor A.R. Goff on March 24, 1980. Very few com- munities ever have or ever will receive from a single talented individual such quality and quan- tity of almost sixty years of civic and professional services. In particular, we wish to record our profound gratitude for the many years during which Doctor Goff so generously donated his services as Board member and President, and as school doctor of Keene Central School. Mr. Denniston was an edu- cator for most of his lifetime. He came to K.C.S. in 1948 to teach business education subjects. During his tenure in our school, Mr. Denniston taught Latin and Social Studies for many years, and also served as an assistant to the Principal. He is also to be remembered for his supportive role in athletics, as well as coach of the school’s golf team. In an indirect capacity, he served the youth of our school as a Boy Scout Master for over ten years, prior to his retirement in 1965. 2 L-Rt Amy Whitney, Chrissie Segard, Bob Wells, Adam Lawas, Leslie Hall, Mrs. Purdy (advisor), and Greg Boynton. With this much youth the team can't help but improve next season, in spite of the loss of Amy Whitney, Chris Segard, and Leslie Hall. BOYS SOCCER Todd Purdy, Andy Frieary and Jeff Shackett were all named to the MVAC All-Star Team, and fullback Greg Boynton received the ul- timate honor—First Team All-Section VII. The Beavers outplayed their opponents eight times, but lack of depth at certain posi- tions cost them several victories. The biggest thrills were two victories over Lake Placid and the sectional victory over Minerva. BOYS JV BASKETBALL Inexperience played a big hand and the boys struggled through a 2-16 season. BOYS VARSITY BASKETBALL The Keene Beaver's squad showed great promise for the future, winning six games including their opening sectional game against Westport. Greg Boynton and Bob Wells (who represented Keene in the senior All-Star game) will be missed, but the Super Six, ali- as the Shake 'n' Bake Boys will be back. Eric Johnson and Dar- rin McDonough were March Conference All-Stars. GIRLS BASKETBALL Only a few girls showed up to play this year, but most of the team showed great interest and dedication. We need greater sup- port from the other girls for this program to continue. GIRLS SOFTBALL The season started with a large number of people showing up for practice. Most of the pitching will be done by Doreen McDon- ough and the girls are very optimistic. BOYS BASEBALL Only one senior and one experienced junior are on the team, so a group of 8-9-10th graders will learn as they play through a Varsity schedule. Darrin McDonough, Matt Dumas, and Todd Purdy do provide a potentially strong pitching staff. Coach Dumas 28 BOYS: (bottom B. Huchro, M. Dumas, J. Augustine, T. Purdy, D. McDonough, F. Heald, R.
