Text from Pages 1 - 56 of the 1979 volume:

LETHA ESTES—Mrs. Letha Estes came to Keene Valley in 1908. She attended Keene High School and graduated in 1920. After completing her training at Albany Hospital, she started her nurse duties with Dr. Goff in 1925. In 1932, she came to work as our school nurse and retired in 1966. During that time and after, Mrs. Estes was very active in the Keene Valley Congregational Church and in Church-related affairs. Letha will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. FRANCIS VAGNARELLI—We were all stunned this year by the untimely death of Mr. Francis Vagnarelli. Mr. Vagnarelli was a highly respected member of this community and served on the Keene Central School Board of Education. He loved young peo- ple and always had their interests at heart. His life among us will long be remembered. BUD REYNOLDS—Mr. Bud Reynolds started coming to Keene Valley with his parents in 1935. In 1972 he retired from his law practice and moved here permanent- ly. Soon thereafter he was very helpful in the negotiations between the teachers and the school board. He was President of the Keene Valley Hospital and was also a trustee of the Keene Valley Congregational Church as well as being a very active member of the community. All who knew Bud will surely miss him. 1 Jl osp (jfcld and CrtLiUj Seniors t(ie CUss oj y f Standing: Alex Hall Second Row: (L to R) Bruce Reed, Dave Cillman, Al Bessey Third Row: Cary Manley, Kelly Hall, Carol Hall, Gerry Higgins, Sharon LaRose Bottom: Miss jurina - Senior Class Advisor 2 CULXyl J - 'j(jSf‘. The Beavers outshot their opponents many times, but weren't too lucky as far as total wins were concerned. We beat Westport 2-1 and Schroon Lake 4-0, and with luck we would have had at least three other conquests. Todd Purdy, Bruce Reed, Al Bessey, and Alex Hall all made All-MVAC, with Hall being named to the first team All-section team as well. The girls' soccer team also won two games. Mrs. Hickey struggled to keep a team together. Using many junior high youngsters, with only a few subs, and sometimes no subs at all, the girls played a courageous season. Carol Hall and Kelly Hall were outstanding team leaders. In boys' basketball the biggest thrill was provided by the Junior Varsity Squad, which won eleven games and came very close to winning a first place trophy. The starting line-up of Todd Purdy, Darrin McDonough, Andy Frieary, Matt Dumas, and Eric Johnson, are to be congratulated. The Varsity struggled through a very unimpressive year as far as wins and losses were concerned. But the boys showed plenty of toughness by playing hard, with enthusiasm, and never quitting for a moment. Albert Bessey and Dave Cillman represented Keene Central School in the Outstanding All-Star game at Long Lake at the end of the season. The girls basketball team, led by league all-stars, Carol Hall and Kelly Hall, won three games in spite of hav- ing many inexperienced seventh graders on the team. More girls have to come out for the teams and support soc- cer and basketball! At this writing the boys baseball teams and the girls' softball teams are just beginning their seasons. With many veterans back we are sure they will do a great job representing Keene Central School. Our senior athletes, Carol Hall, Kelly Hall, Sharon LaRose, Cerry Higgins, Dave Cillman, Albert Bessey, Alex Hall, Bruce Reed and Cary Manley, will be really missed next year. They have really sacrificed a lot to support Keene Central Sports. —Coach Dumas 32 90CCGR Back: Matt Dumas, David Mitchell, Brian Huchro, Bob Wells, Jeff Shackett, Andy Quinn, Greg Boynton, Matt Zelinski, Todd Purdy, Adam Lawas, Andrew Frieary, Steve Hudson, Larry Bessey; Front: Darrin McDonough, Albert Bessey, Bruce Reed, David Gillman, Alex Hall. 33 w oacK row: Lonnie Hickey, Leslie Hall, Chrissie Segard, Cerry Higgins, Tammie Allen, Caulie Hebert, Amy Whitney, Sheryl LaRose; Front Row: Eunice Smith Sharon LaRose, Carol Hall, Angela Rasco, Julie Baird.
