Keene Central has undoubtedly seen the fluctuations of change In many ways of which I am happy to be a part. The essence of a satisfactory yearbook lies In the acceptance of the concept that the school Is an educa- tional Institution providing the setting for a program properly balancing curricular and extra-curricular activities. Although we were late in the initial preparation of this annual, we hope it partly fullfills Its mis- sion as a photojournalistic report or record of the school’s activities. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the many people who have, in some way, helped in this publication In particular my deepest thanks to editors Valarie McDonough, Betsy Nye, Jo-ann Manley and Erin McDonough. I know they sacrificed many enjoyable evenings only to listen to my complaints. Yet they conquered an almost impossible goal. Without their cooperation, dedication and eagerness this book would never have been possible. Now we have the distinct pleasure to sub- mit Memories 71 to your critical eye, hoping that it will achieve the purpose for which it was created. Francis J. Candids SNAPS EDITORS MESSAGE An unredeemable decade has past, a time which will remain eternally credent for an entire generation. Years which will not soon be forgotten by the families of four i'eat State students or those close to the victims of Jackson State. In these violent times, we as individuals as well as members of Keene Central School should stop and take stock of our achieve- ments and goals. We have witnessed unnecessary violence from both extremes, over-reaction on the part of law enforcement agencies and destruction of every sort by student radicals. After a decade of carnage in Viet Nam It seems we still have learned nothing. We still fall to see that- violence can at best only breed violence. It is the responsibility of each individual human being to work towards an end to this madness of which we have all been a part. We should not forget the events of the past year, but remember and use them to modify our actions in the future. Only through Justice can Justice be achieved.
