TOMAHAWK-’ 64 KECOUGHTAN HIGH SCHOOL HAMPTON , VIRGINIA STAFF: Editor-in-Chief. . . . Jan Patching Faculty Anne Tyler Classes Ann Patching Elaine Skibicki Features Helen Evans VOLUME 1 Sports Greg Eckert Circulation Pat Lassiter 2 FACULTY AND ADMINISTRATION A school is more than just students and administration. The faculty is an integral part of any school, and so it is at Kecoughtan. The administration directs the faculty and student body; the faculty helps, instructs, and leads the students. Here we see all of those who have helped to make this year a memorable one by teaching, guiding, and encouraging us. To them we owe our respect, our gratitude, and our appreciation. 3 ADMINISTRATION The Hampton City School Board serves the community by providing modern school buildings and well- trained faculties. The School Board members will- ingly receive suggestions and ideas from all who are vitally interested in promoting the educational assets of the community. As you will see on the following pages they have done a fine job in combining ideas and efforts to make Kecoughtan High School the great educational institution that it is. C. When the doors opened in September to engulf 1,100 students, Kecough- tan really came to life. Hundreds of juniors, and even more sophomores, soon roamed the halls, maps in hand, to register in classes. Their faces reflected wonder at the size of their new home, curiosity about their new teachers, and joy at their luck in being the first class- es in Kecoughtan High School. Now their faces reflect pride in their school, and hope for the years to come. You see all of this as you search these pages for your friends of 1963-64. JUNIORS Jill M. Adams Anne T. Alford Larry C. In addition to regular classes, students have the oppor- tunity to further their education and de- velop new interests through the many clubs and organizations. These extracurricular organizations meet before and after school at times most convenient for members. At present, there are some thirty clubs and organizations, ranging from A Cappellato Y-teens, and the number is expected to increase next year. Extra- curricular activities provide not only benefits for the individual but also service to the school and the community. All of the organizations of Kecoughtan High School, excluding sports, are pre- sented in this section. SCA The Student Cooper- ative Association is a governing body of stu- dents designed to rep- resent the students of Kecoughtaninthe affairs of the school and the community. Although this is the first season for the Kecoughtan Band, there is no doubt in the minds of Kecoughtan students that we have one of the best school bands on the Peninsula. Perhaps the Band ' s most important project this year has been the drive for uniforms. Several candy sales have been held, and all proceeds from concerts have gone into the uniform fund. The PTA, the Key Club, and the Band parents have also given assistance in the drive. The band gave three concerts this year, participated in the District in Music Festival, and sent several mem- bers to the All State Band. The majorettes performed during the football season and at the Christmas and Spring concerts. The football team began work while most of us were hazily con- templating a new school year in a new school. In succession, Kecoughtan entered teams in all sports, and even added something new this year. The new was the Girl ' s Athletic As- sociation, formed to provide oppor- tunities for inter- school competition in girls ' sports. The lack of a senior class made us eligible for competition only in class A-2 this year. Our achievements in the world of sports were satisfactory, but we expect to do better next year.
