The President formally announced the end of major hostilities in Iraq. Although the Marines were still ashore, fighting in smaller battles, the announcement provided hope that a homecoming date may soon be announced. On 3 May the crew all came topside to have a photo taken. The banner Thank You America clearly displayed the crew's sentiment that they appreciated everyone's support back home. The thousands of packages, letters, e-mails and phone calls were very much appreciated and played a huge role in every Sailor's morale. That night the crew had another talent show where some of the crew overcame their shyness and stepped center stage to entertain. Some say laughter is therapeutic.
