captain alfred n. fowler executive officer Next in rank to the Commanding Officer. is the Executive Officer. He is primarily responsible. under the Commanding Officer for organization. performance of duty. and good order and discipline of the entire command. Captain Fowler assumed duties as Executive Officer on August 2. 1968. relieving Captain P. F, Hunter. He immediately became the arbiter of all of KEARSARGES daily woes. orchestrating the often overlapping inter- ests ofthe ship's many departments. As XO. he was at the scene of every emergency. directed and manned the bridge during all alongside evolutions as well as every occasion of entering or leaving port. Captain Fowler accepted a direct commission as Ensign in September 1948. and was designated a naval aviator in November 1949. During his career. he has been attached to Patrol Squadron 23 at Miami. Florida, Weather Squadron Two. Airborne Early Warning Squad- ron Four. and Staff. Commander Fleet Air Wing ll. all located in jacksonville. Florida. Prior to reporting to KEARSARGE. he attended the Air War College at Max- well Field. Alabama. gi' -N,
