LAMP POST 1973 KEARNY 11 IC;i 1 SCHOOL KEARNY, NEW JERSEY ■■ Beautiful You’ve got to get up every morning with a smile on your face. And show the world all the love in your heart. Then people gonna treat you better. You're gonna find, yes you will. That you're beautiful as you feel. 1 have often asked myself the reason for the sadness. In a world where tears are just a lullabye. If there s any answer, maybe love can end the madness Maybe not, oh, but we can only try. — Carole King A 5 6 If I make a mark in time I can’t say the mark is mine. I’m only the underline of the word. Yes. I’m like him. just like you I can’t tell you what to do Like everybody else I'm searching through what I’ve heard. Now every second on the nose The humdrum of the city grows reaching out beyond the throes of our time. We must try to shake it down Do our best to break the ground. Try to turn the world around — one more time Whoa — where do you go when you don’t want no-one to know Who told tomorrow — Tuesday's dead. — Cat Stevens 7 Long ago a young man sits and plays his waiting game But things are not the same it seems as in such tender dreams. Slowly passing sailing ships and Sunday afternoons Like people on the moon I see Are things not meant to he Where do those golden rainbows end ... ? And in between what might have been and what has come to pass A misbegotten guess alas and bits of broken glass. Where do your golden rainbows end? Why is this song so sad'r Dreaming the dreams I dream my friend . . . — James Taylor 8 9 Well the sun is surely sinking down But the moon is slowly rising So. this old world must still be spinning' round But I can sing this song And you can sing this song When I’m gone. It won’t be long before another day We gonna have a good time And no one s gonna take that time away You can stay as long as you like. — James Taylor 10 11 12 You’ve Got A Friend When you’re down and troubled and you need a helping hand And nothing, nothing is going right Close your eyes and think of me and soon I will be there To brighten up even vourdarkest nights You just call out my name and you know wherever you are I’ll come running to see you again. Winter, spring, summer, fall, all you’ve got to do is call And I’ll be there, you’ve got a friend If the sky above you should grow dark and lull of clouds And that old North wind should begin to blow Keep your head together and call my name out loud Soon I'll be knocking upon your door Ain’t it good to know that you’ve got a friend When people can be so cold They’ll hurt you and desert you They’ll take your soul if you let them But don’t you let them — Carole King 13 Way Over Yonder Way over yonder is a place that I know Where I can find shelter from hunger and cold And the sweet tasting good life is easily found Way over yonder— that's where I’m bound. I know when I get there, the first thing I'll see Is the sun shining golden — shining right down on me. Then trouble s gonna lose me — worry leave me behind And I'll stand up proudly in true peace of mind. Way over yonder is a place that I ve seen In a garden of wisdom from some long ago dream. Maybe tomorrow I II find my way To the land where the honey runs in rivers each day. And the sweet tasting good life is easily found Way over yonder — that’s where I'm bound. — Carole King 14 15 For what is it to die but to stand naked in the wind and to melt into the sun? And what is it to eease breathing, but to free the breath from its restless tides that it may rise and expand and seek God unencumbered? Only when you drink from the river of silence shall you indeed sing. And when you have reached the mountain top, then you shall begin to climb. And when the earth shall claim your limbs, then shall you truly dance. — Kahlil Gibran FACULTY A DMINISTRA TION DR. ROBERT E. MULLIGAN Superintendent of Schools JOSEPH AULISI THOMAS A. Mrs. Da-nette Dent, and say of you with great fondness and respect, you were ... a friend. You, above all else, taught us the meaning of being friends. You earned our love by sharing with us each jov, each tear, and every struggle we encountered during the past four years. It seemed no problem was ever insurmountable, no sorrow so devastating, no opposition too great that you were afraid to become personally involved in it with each of us. We thank you for the many sacrifices you willingly made for our benefit. You were there at our long class meetings, when ads had to be sold, money had to be raised, or when one of us needed someone to just listen for a while. You gave much of yourself to us and asked little in return, except that we strive for the best in ourselves and take pride in all that we do, as you personally did. We could not go without first telling u that your efforts were not in vain. Today, we are no longer children, but mature adults. Although life mat separate us, you will always be there in our hearts and memories as the person who helped us the most. Always our friend. Respectfully and fondly.
