It is their duty to encourage sportsmanship at all times and strive for loyalty to the school and team. This years squad captain was Judy Heffner. The Kearny High School Soccer team of 1957, although a very powerful squad, wasn’t up to Kearny’s perennial standards. Our annual State champs were dethroned by Ridgewood in a questionable choice. The Kard hooters compiled a 11-3-2 record. The three ties were believed to be the hindrance that spoiled our season. Coach Fred Coggins enjoyed his twenty-third year at Kearny’s helm. The team was captained by Tom Cierzo and our All-State goal keeper, Bob McLean. Mr. Coggins expects to have at least nine lettermen returning for the 1958 season. Plagued by being unadaptable to Mr. Peloso’s system, the basketball team managed to win three games in fifteen. Captains Mike Sussman and Richie Piegari paced the Kards in scoring and rebounding. The team was coached by Mr. Frank Peloso and assisted by Mr. Michael Conte and Mr. Walter Dzuraska. VARSITY BASKETBALL Front Row: Foley, Dolan, Wynne, Gillespie, Edwards, Boyle. J. 54 This month the 195 Glee Club of Congoleum-Nairn, Inc. will mark its 1 1th Anniversary with the presentation of its Annual Spring Concert for General Office employees and their guests. Each year the Club also holds a Christmas concert in the Auditorium on Belgrove Drive, a feature of the annual holiday party for employees. The 195 Club, whose membership consists of General Office personnel, is responsible for many other popular social functions during the year. Dances, a summer picnic, trips to baseball and football games, and athletic banquets are only a few of the events sponsored by the 195 Club. This year Congoleum-Nairn celebrates the 70th Anniversary of the year in which Sir Michael Nairn of Scotland arrived in Kearny to make plans for the manufacture of the first resilient floor coverings ever made in America. From modest beginnings in 1888, Congoleum-Nairn now operates six plants along the eastern seaboard and has district offices in twelve principal cities. We are well aware of our responsibility to the buying public, to more than 8,000 stockholders, to more than 4,000 employees, and to the residents of the communities in which our plants and offices are located. We take great pleasure in extending our very best wishes to the 1958 graduates of Kearny High School. CONGOLEUM-NAIRN, INC. 195 BELGROVE DRIVE KEARNY, NEW JERSEY JOSEPH M.
