STATE CHAMPS Kearny’s soccer team finished the season again by being named Group IV state champs. The team record was eleven wins, three ties, and one loss. Co-captains for the team were Bob Wasilik and Bill Hutcheson. The team was coached by Mr. Fred L. Coggin, who has obtained his eighteenth crown in twenty-one years. In order to be eligible for the Varsity K, an athlete must participate in a majority of the games or meets during the season, and prove himself to be a capable performer in that sport. To win an honor sweater, at least two regular letters must be earned first. Mr. Jardine’s harriers again had a fine season, compiling a six to two record in dual meet competitions. The Kards, sparked by the great performance of Tom Sassman, came in third at the state meet, second in the Hudson County Championship meet, and won the first annual Big Ten meet. Sassman, who was the individual state champion by winning the State meet, also won at the Big Ten. Jenkins, Todd, McCourt, Lahoff, and Wallace also did a fine job for the team. Led by its two seniors, John Triano and A1 Woods, the basketball team put forth a great deal of effort during the ’55-06 season. Coach Alex Misel-son, new to the athletic roster, tried to instruct the boys in the finer points of this great American sport and was Eleased to note the improvement that egan to blossom forth towards the end of the season. She'd been respectable throughout her life, With five churched husbands bringing joy and strife, . Three times she'd journeyed to Jerusalem; And many a foreign stream she'd had to stem; . . . She could tell many of wandering by the way: Gap-toothed was she, it is no lie to say. . . . The remedies of love she knew, perchance, For of that art she'd learned the old, old dance.
