German Club 1, 2. m7 CloM Jliticrtu t2B In September of 1949, a group of frightened boys and girls trampled their way through the unknown halls of K.H.S. Our anticipation was great, as everything was very strange and new to us. Without much deliberation we chose Warren Rebholz as our president, Dorothy Stelmak as vice president; Sally Travisano, secretary; and Andrew Williamson treasurer. September of 1950 we reached our sophomore year with a boom.’’ We were at ease now, for the hardest hill had been climbed. We again chose Warren Rebholz and Dorothy Stelmak for our president and vice president, respectively. Nheiva Bohan was our secretary and Elinor Ramsay took over as treasurer. We held two successful dances in our exciting second year. We called them, Sleigh Ride Swing , and the Clover Hop This was the year—we stepped into our Junior boots. We elected Gordon Clark, president; Evelyn Lawrie, vice president; Nheiva Bohan, secretary and Elinor Ramsay, treasurer. At the end of the year we received our treasured rings. For extra money we sold Christmas cards enthusiastically. We all pitched in to make our Junior Prom, The Chinese Festval, the most successful in school history. The library was a perfect setting and we ail shared in the effect it produced, after many months of tedious labor. We finally reached our most ultimate goal —Seniors! We elected Charles Alicks, president; Evelyn Lawrie, vice president; Elinor Ramsay, treasurer; for the third time, and Joan Heller as secretary. We held a cool dance in the gym and dubbed it The Bop Bair. We went on our class trip to Rye Beach and had our Senior Farewell. We then pitched in to make class night a hit and we left these mighty halls forever on Graduation Day. On January 27, 1950 our class under the sponsorship of Miss Leah Skelton, entered this vast school called Kearny High. In our freshman year we felt big and important, but wasn't even noticed except by the seniors who thought we would be a good source of fun making. At once we undertook the job of electing as our officers Allan Morrison, president; Gene Thompson, vice president; Patricia Wade, secretary; Shirley Krishman, treasurer. As sophomores we made our social debut in K.H.S. at the Clover Hop on March 16, 1951. As 1 OB’s we really got in the groove with our Christmas dance The Sleigh Ride Swing . Officers for this term were Allan Morrison, president; Gene Thompson, vice president; Dick Onde, treasurer; George McNeill, sec-reta ry. In our Junior year we were most success ful with our Christmas Card sale with the help of the 1 1 A’s. It was at this time we put forth all our efforts to make our Junior Prom the “Chinese Festival a success. Jim Alexander led this successful year as president, Gene Thompson, vice president; George McNeill, treasurer; Bill Oldknow, secretary. As seniors our many activities increased. Our Senior Farewell and Class Trip will long be remembered. Our Bop Ball was also a great success. At graduation we ended our dear old golden rule days and deeply regretted leaving the school which taught us so much. PERSONALITY Front Row: Noonan, Hinkley. Second Row: Rebholz, Bohan. Despite the loss of Co-Captain Warren Rebholz, who suffered a broken ankle after the first game, the Kardinals were one of the top ranked teams in New Jersey, winning seven games and losing only two. Coach Argauer’s team was plagued with injuries throughout the entire season, but their fight and spirit conquered many stronger foe. There were many standout players, although Co-Captain Pacesa was the only one to gain All-State recognition. Kearny High’s big nine captains were Ed Manthy, 1 1 B and Frank Bernardo, 10A. Ed and Frank have something to boast about for it is not usual that underclassmen are selected for the position. The team is under the skillful coaching of Leonard “Doc” Loughridge, one of the best coaches in the state. The Kearny versus Columbia was the first thrilling game played.
