We've Got Spirit, Yes We Do Spirit Week, full of activities leading up to Homecoming, was held from Oc- tober 23rd through the 27th. A pie throwing contest, sponsored by the PABAS, got Spirit Week off to a fun start. Pies were auctioned off to stu- dents, who wanted the chance to cream members of our faculty and the football team. The Girls' League sponsored Blind Man's Obstacle course was next, with teams of contestants racing over tables, through spaghetti and ice, and around chairs, with one member of the team blindfolded. On Wednesday, the junior class sponsored a Spoon Pull where the ob- ject was to be the first team to thread all eight members together. An Ice Cream Eating-Big Wheel Marathon came next, followed by 50's Day and the homecoming pep-rally. Dean Ylagen prepares to take on one of Kearny's most spirited teachers, Mr. Owen. lumni dd Spirit But ot Points After a week of fun and excitement, Homecoming 1978 finally arrived on October 27. With all the alumni present, an extra enthusiasium filled the air. The game was played on a typical fall night against the Pt. Loma Pointers at Mesa Bowl. The festivities began with the Home- coming Parade. The court rode up in antique cars led by the band and floats made by various school organizations. Even with all the planning and pre- paring of the previous weeks, someone forgot to plan a victory as the Komets lost 26-23. The following night, spirits that had died out because of the loss were re- kindled at the Homecoming Ball. Held at Straita Head Sound, students danced to the music of Starfire amid the glitter- ing decorations that the A.S.B. worked long and hard on. Carol Clabby and Teresa Hedgecoth ride in an old-fashioned car during the Homecoming Pa- rade. The cars were donated by the Horseless Carriage club of San Diego for the Homecoming COUFI. 14 K' X After riding in the parade, the Homecoming Court stands in glory with their escorts as they are presented to the school. Kearny students and alumni get on their feet to show their Komet Spirit.
