I 8 Mary Lee Hogan The highest scholastic record in the Senior Class was achieved by Ed Dickson, who maintained straight A's throughout his high school career. Always an active member of 'C.S.F. he served as its vice-president in the spring of '58 and both semesters of his senior year and he recived a life mem- bership in the organization. Due to his avid interest in science and active participation in Bf-Chem- Phy another honor came to him when he was elected president of the club in his junior year. His greatest achievement was demon- strated through his untiring efforts to produce the '59 KOMET. As' the able Editor-in-Chief of our yearbook, Ed Dickson deserves our highest commendation. Canadian born Mary Lee Hogan, highest ranking member of Who's Who, is considered one of the most dependable students at Kearny. Quietly industrious, she , has made innumerable contribu- tions to our school in time, effort and accomplishment by complet- ing admirably each job she un- dertakes. Serving as president of C.S.F. tor both semesters of her senior year, she has also earned her life r membership pin. Interested in many school activities, she served well as 'Copy Editor of the Annual' I and as a member of the Dianas, . Quill and Scroll, K.D.K. Council, E and A.S.B. Her hobbies encom- pass swimming, bowling,and read- ing Shakespeare. A sincere and gracious girl, 'Mary Lee plans to enter the 'Field of medicine and become a Physical Therapist. Coming to Kearny in his junior year, Curt Fischer is one of the most talented artists ever to at- tend our school. This artistically endowed student received two art awards before he arrived on our campus and has since been rec- ognized for his outstanding worlx in the Kearny Art Department. Majoring in English as well as art, he displayed an interest in creative writing and submitted manuscripts to our literary maga- zine, Scribblers Frolic, and served in many useful capacities as a member of Quill and Scroll. During the election campaigns in the spring of '58 the entire student body's attention was sud- denly focused upon 'Curt Fischer. Swept to victory, he served as an efficient, courteous, and responsi- ble A.S.B. President, presiding ef- fectively throughout the year at all student body functions. Sparkling with personality and bubbling with school spirit, Betty Truett has been engrossed in numerous school activities. ln her sophomore year she was a mem- ber of the Pom Pon 'Corps and served as Sophomore Representa- tive to the Girls' League and as secretary of Mixed Chorus. The following year she continued her leadership by becoming a song- leader and Jr. Business Editor of the Annual. She also remained on the Girls' League Council. In ad- dition to earning a life member- ship in 1C.S.F. in her senior year, this capable and industrious girl was our Head Songleader, Girls' League President, and Business Editor of the Annual. Socially, Betty graced our school as Queen of the R.O.T.'C. Ball and Homecoming attendant, and culminated her role in Job's Daughters as Sr. Princess and Honored Queen. Curt Fischer Betty Truett Michael Lennon Peppy and full of ambition, our Senior Class Vice-President, Mike Lennon, exhibited a keen interest in school affairs. Since his ap- pointment to the Junior Colne Committee, his boundless enthu- siasm for class activities has been displayed by his worlt on the 'Cap and Gown 'Committee and the Senior Council. This year he was elected president of Bi-'Chem-Phy, a club offering an outlet for his continued interest in math and science. Most of Milte's free time has been devoted to the duties re- quired of the president of the San Diego Achievers Association. Chosen Junior Achiever of the Year for the San Diego Area, his honors included a trip to a national convention as well as television appearances. I9
