Dick Bartz turned in a fine performanee, seoring twice. Coaeh Hal Smith also dis- eovered a tough combination in the Eggert brothers, George and Tom. Our first league game was with the Islanders from Coronado. This game proved to be a sad one for the Komet team and rooters alike, as a fine Coronado Club smothered the Komets 39-6. Kearny's only seore eame on a pass from Nelson to Tom Eggert in the fourth period. Our fifth league game was a rough and tough thriller with the Red Devils from Sweetwater. The Kom- ets tallied Grst via the arm of Huddy MeYN'illiams to Tom Eggert. The toe, jim Ticer, came in and booted the deciding marker. Sweetwater Came back to seore a touchdown in the second half but missed the extra point try. Late in the fourth period the Red Devils scored again, but had it called back for clipping. On the next play, the Komets intercepted a Sweetie pass on our 3-yard line, moved to the 5, and the gun ended the game 7-6 in Kearny's favor. Our final game of the season ended with a loss to Chula Vista H-0. The Komets played a rugged defensive game and the pass snagging of Mel Stilson kept the Komets fighting throughout the game. Kearny's J.Y.s hid a well rounded outfit this year and played some out- standing ball games. Linder the lead- ership of eoaeh Paul Deieon, many prospeets for next year's Varsity were pfodueed. Some of the more out- standing ones are jim Shoemaker, Bob Stipp and Don Nfonohan. Coach Algy Lamhert had one of the snappiest little Cee teams seen around Kearny in a long time. Light and fast, but also rugged, some top- notrh ball players will eome from this team. BC1'UllS j.V. FOOTBALL-Front row: Bob Gfwli, Fr-rnnndo Estc'x'anf', Pzmbllo Szlnrhc-7, -lurk Brt-ww.
