These dedicated francophiles meet under the direction of Mr. John Galligan. and drink deeply from the rich cul- tural heritage of France. This club offers a student not only the oppor- tunity to improve their skills in the French language , but it widens the cultural horizons of the Keansburg student. Viva La France. A fairly new and quite popular club at KHS is the Ski Club. Under the direction of Mr. Murray and Miss Kaes, the Ski Club provides students with an opportunity to travel to local ski resorts and develop or polish their skill in this fast growing sport. The club has traveled to Great Gorge and Vernon Valley this year, where students were suddenly transformed into Downhill Racers, hoping to reach the bottom of the slope intact. One of the most successful clubs this year has been the photography club, under the direction of Mr. I . Peter Hughes. The yearbook staff alone is deeply grateful to Mr. Hughes and to Ray Keffer for their tireless and gener ous help. A fully equipped darkroom is made available to students, allowing them to develop their developing skills. Things are expected to turn out even better next year. 119

4 .. I ,. ABOVE: Robin Harrington, Cheryl Paris and Holly Hall display the first issue of Oceanus as advisors Mr. Nissenbaum and Mr. Waldron look on. The tidal wave of Oceanus crashed upon the shores of Keans- burg , but because of an apparent lack of student interest and an obvious lack of student support, the tide has ebbed. In spite of growing money worries, Editor- in-Chief Alex Figueroa , with her shrinking staff, did manage to get out issues of the school paper. And the newspaper was certainly something that deserved more support than it received. But this first step has been taken, and Advisors Mr. Waldron and Mr. Nissenbaum are optimistic about the future of Oceanus. They look forward to an even better paper next year, if they receive the support of the student body .

The purpose of the Nurse's Club is to acquaint students with careers in health fields, and to promote information useful in health needs. To learn everything they could in this science related club, spe- cial trips were planned to River- view Hospital, and Monmouth County Blood Bank, King James Nursing Home , and Patterson Army Hospital. Guest speakers were invited who were authori- ties in various health related fields. All of the students who were associated with this club gained the experience of dealing with the people on a person to person basis daily. One member, senior Diane Crowl, decided to further her education after graduation by studying to become a nurse. Another club that is eagerly recognized is the teachers' aides. They also give up their free time in an effort to take some of the paper work from the teachers, therefore giving them more time to teach their classes and to prepare the next day's les- sons. Some of their duties are tedious, like marking and recording homework assignments and tests, but they also get a chance to teach the students. This can give a student a totally new outlook on the jobs of their teachers. All in all this is a ded- icated club which can be relied on to carry out their daily duties. 120 purses Club FIRST ROW: Georgette Alafouzos, Jackie Fitzsimmons, Cindy Valverdi, Deb bie Degraff , Carol Murawski.
