Dedication Dr. Nathan Weiss The 1989 Memorabilia is dedicated to Dr. Na- than Weisst retiring President of Kean College. . . . . Dr. Weiss has served as college president for LXPRLSSIONS the past twenty years. He joined our faculty in I989 v -, . 1961 as a political scientist. Later he became ' - . t , chairperson of the History Department. During his tenure, he was responsible for the inaugura- tion of new major programs in history, political science and social work. IfltI'OdUCtiOI'l 5 Dr. Weiss assumed the position of Acting President of Kean College in 1969. As president, . . . 1 Dr. Weiss directed the transition of our college Act1v1t1es 7 from a school dedicated to teacher eduCation to a multi-purpose institution comprised of schools specializing in liberal arts, business, the sciences and education. Kean College now offers 39 un- dergraduate major programs and 15 graduate de- gree programs ranging from computer science to fine arts. Dr. Weissts major contribution was to preside over the successful implementation 0fthe 3.9 mil- lion dollar New Jersey Governorts Challenge Grant that was awarded to Kean College. The grant has given the college national recognition, particularly in the area of assessment. Although he is retiring from the college presi- dency, Dr. Weiss will continue to teach in the master of public administration program and the master of arts liberal studies program, specializ- ing in government organizations.
