The Bank is located in the Student Activities building, right across the hall from the book store. The Bank handles the accounts of Student Organization, administrators and many resi- dents as well. Their hours are limited, but they do remain open during the summer. 1 T tlil ' lf you ever needed cigarettes, Ice Tea, or something to munch on, chances are you would have headed over to the Candy Store. The Candy Store is located in the College Center. They offer you every- thing from milk to aspirin. The little ladies behind the counter are pleasant and serve you quickly. at., Ai'-'fl' EE' ygxv c A-n xv aJ9f f.- V Q-Q Books are an essential part of Kean. Once you are enrolled in a course you are required to purchase at least one book for that particu- lar course. If you make it to the Bookstore early in the semester, you may be lucky enough to purch- ase a used book at a lower price. lf you are not so lucky, you are stuck buying a new book at a much higher price. The Bookstore does buy back used books at the beginning of each semester. Although, some books they will not buy back from you. And, they will usually offer you a very low price for your books. The term, life experience, is a popular one in today's academic world and encompasses many areas of practical accomplishment. One of the most lasting and valuable of these experiences comes from participation and involvement in student-run organizations. Whether it is in student government, the campus newspaper, or student activity programs, Kean College has made a continuing commitment to student involvement. The college believes that students learn most by doing, by running their own government and their own organizations. Guidance-and advice are always available, but, in the long run, students make or break the success of the organization for which they have assumed responsibility. Surprisingly few mistakes are made, but even these contribute to the learning and growing process of the involved student. Self-confidence is often best achieved by falling down and knowing that you are able to pick yourself up and continue to move forward. The philosophical concept of involvement is often the subject of academic dis- course. Through a practical application we hope to plant the seed of lifelong com- mitment. We steadfastly believe that a college must not only provide professional development and cultural enrichment, it must strive to impart the lessons of its own commitment to the larger community. Just as Kean increasingly extends itself into broader areas of community involvement in education, government, business and cultural activities, we hope our students will carry this inherited tradition into the destinies they pursue when they graduate from Kean. The need for involved students has never been greater or the temptation to with- draw from these reponsibilities stronger. We hope that Kean College students, de- veloping the skills that make involvement fruitful and fulfilling, will carry this experi- ence with them into the wider world before them. Their background in such special fields as allied health and computer science may well be used to brighten the future of the people of New Jersey. Their involvement in our country's government, envi- ronment, community organizations and professions, can make the eighties a decade for anticipation rather than apprehension. The varied skills, practical and theoretical, which have been developed at Kean College, should stand our students in good stead in years to come. We look forward to hearing from them and about them. We are proud of what they have brought to us and what they have taken from us. We know they will do the same for the new world they are now entering. Sincerely, Dr. Nathan Weiss N4 . .-.- . .W ,- .,- U . ,,,. .af - 5- SY-T' 1-,EU v ,gn Y JH X' f X 272 J.- F nv ' Jil? - ' . J, If lr 155 .f-'41 I ff' M5 Q J zf' -51-H' In I . .I I ,,' ... 4, 'f?'g i. At first, it didn't seem possible. Until February a mere 16 pages had been completed. But word went out this past winter that another attempt to com- plete the book should be made. A small core of students, all of whom have been heavily involved in campus activities at some time or another, answered the call for help. Literally hun- dreds of photos needed to be gathered in a few short months. Most of the pictures were a year old. The task was not easy, but we believe we covered each group, activity and social event. Patience by the campus groups, faculty and administration helped make our chore much easier. For many, it was the third or fourth time they were asked to identify photos, or come up with pictures of their group. One of the values of taking on this task at such a late date, however, was the availability of 20!2O hindsight. We thought that, coupled with our drive to complete this book, would help bring the dormant pictures to life. We request your indulgence in our tardiness. The editors delegated this responsibility never owned up, so it was up to us. Also, some of the pictures may be mislabeled, as our increased deadline pressure did not allow for copy editing. Thank you, one and all, for any help that was provided in making this book a reality, especially the Independent, and CCB for providing a host of pictures and information. The book should bring back warm memories when it is opened in years to come. We hope we accomplished what we set out to do, namely, to provide a book that when opened would spark the question, Remember when?
