JOSEPH F. MURPHY RICHARD W. HOWES As the class of 1970 faces its farewell to the high school where it has received special education and training for the World of Work, you will detect a feeling that your specialized knowledge is greatly needed in our Connecticut industry and business. The Connecticut Yankee is generally thought of as an outstanding mechanic and person. It is hoped that each class member will continue to do his part to maintain this reputation. Sincerely yours, Richard W. Howes, Assistant Director Division of Vocational Education TO THE CLASS OF '70 Congratulations to the members of the graduating class of 1970 for successfully completing an arduous program of education. You have had an excellent opportunity to prepare yourself to meet the future for serv- ices to your community and services to the State. I know that you will enter your life ahead well prepared and I am assured of your continued growth and success. Sincerely yours, Joseph F. Murphy, Director Division of Vocational Education 3

Foreword All can he proud of the yearbook which we have created. The staff and I feel, however, that the yearbook can never fully contain all the cherished memories and fond moments spent in our four years at Kaynor. Keeping this in mind, we have tried to capture a small part of all our memories in this book. Our last year was a most productive one. There were many events and happenings which held most of our attention and took most of our time. My staff and I are proud to have been given the opportunity to create something which we can truly call our own, the 1970 Panther. A word of thanks should go to the many people who worked long hours to bring this book to fruition. Thank You, SUSAN E. DUBAY Editor-in-Chief

The decade of the 1970’s has already elicited a plethora of forecasts regarding the young, the old, the environment, the space program, the economy. Allow me then to project some thoughts about the Class of '70. — Most of you will find fulfillment in doing your work the best you can, and in marrying and raising families. — You will contribute towards preserving the greatness of America, defying the crepe- hangers. — You will find ways to help reduce injustice and poverty wherever it exists. — You will remind others by your example that good craftsmanship lends greater dignity to all human efforts, with more benefits to so- ciety. Your teachers have worked hard to help you learn. Their reward will be in seeing the spirit of learning and doing along with good citizen- ship and moral progress, increasingly evident in your lives. That is craftsmanship of the highest order. JOHN L. ROSSI Director To The Class of 1970: Goodbye. Your days at Kaynor will long be remembered. I hope that the world you entered on June 17 will be as concerned, protective, patient, and proud of your efforts as were your instructors at Kaynor Tech. JOHN J. MILLS Assistant Director 4
