Class History Four years can go by very quickly. In September of 1966 most of us entered the school. A small group came one year later, and some people even started in 1965. There were about 170 freshmen in 1966 and we now number approximately 114. Our first year was demanding and eventful. We jumped into our school work energetically, but by the year’s end Math and Science had reduced our ranks to about 145. In athletics two members of our class led the basketball team to a successful season. At the beginning of our Sophomore year we organized as a class for the first time. We elected David Sullivan as President of our Class. We now spent half of our time in our shops and the remainder in Related and General Education. Our athletic teams were fair. However, the basketball team made the state CIAC tournament for the first time in history. We held a few cake sales and a dance to raise money for our later activities. At year’s end we numbered about 135. As Juniors we began to plan the year's biggest event—the Junior Prom. The three athletic teams all played well and the basketball team made the CIAC tournament once again. David Sullivan was re-elected President of the class. The prom was held in the school gymnasium on May 23, 1969. Our senior year started and we numbered about 120. Anthony Durso was elected President of our Class. The year was played out in the age of protest. College buildings were being occupied and ravaged by stu- dents. At Kaynor there was a mild protest over the dress code. Modifica- tions were made in it after students claimed it was their right to dress and cut their hair as they pleased. In athletics the school had winning records in all three major sports for the first time. In addition a fourth athletic team—track was added. The yearbook staff moved ahead with its job and the class play failed because of student apathy. The Class trip was made to Ocean Beach Park in late May. Our Senior Prom was held at the Fountain Hearth in Woodbury, and we received our diplomas on June 17, 1970. We left Kaynor immediately to conquer the world of work. 16
