Published by The Class of 1969 Warren F. Kaynor Regional Technical School Waterbury, Conn. Volume 14 Foreword An important climax to an important step in the stairway of life has come to its end. This year was truly the fastest and fullest of the four. It contained joy, sorrow, hope, inspiration and a sense of accomplishment. The Panther yearbook staff deserves credit for the massive amount of work and research required to make this book possible. People will little note, nor long remember what has happened here, but this yearbook will reacquaint all those to whom the mem- ories are dear. What we have learned here at Kaynor will be of infinite value to our present and future lives. Dedication ..... Staff .......... Seniors ........ Class History Class Officers Class Will .... HOWES Assistant Director Division of Vocational-Technical Education Graduating classes from the Connecticut vocational- technical schools have a reputation for skill, knowledge and the ability to deal effectively with people. The Class of 1969 can go forth into employment proud of this past reputation and with a resolve to con- tinue the high standards of previous classes and a desire to excel . . . May all the class membecs achieve success in their career field. JOSEPH F. MURPHY Director Division of Vocational-Technical Education 1 wish to congratulate the members of the 1969 graduating class of the Warren F. Kaynor Technical School, Waterbtiry for their successful completion of an arduous program of preparation. You have com- pleted a course of study more difficult than ones com- pleted by most high school graduates. You chose a strong and well-founded program of general studies as well as your elective major in a skilled or technical area. You and the program are unique in Connecticut and in the nation. The program that you have com- pleted is available to students in a number of other states only after completion of high school. You have lead time on many other students of your age due to your choice, your efforts, cooperation of your parents, and the staff of the Kaynor Technical School. May you continue to retain this lcadtime to your advantage, to the advantage of your community, state and nation. May you continue to set your eyes on new goals and prepare yourself to attain them. JOSEPH F. MURPHY Director Division of Vocational-Technical Education RICHARD W. HOWES To the Members of the Class of ’69. To each of you as individuals, Congratula- tions. As you go through life remember that we are entrusting each of you with a part of our reputation. We know you will not fail us so please do not fail yourselves. Put in every day’s work the same effort that you put in as students and you will succeed propor- tionately. E. R. MYER Assistant Director Adult Education Responsibility and participation are as much a part of adulthood as books, teachers and study are of adolescence. At the same time that you are congratulated for the knowledge and skills acquired while at Kaynor, you should feel challenged by the responsibilities of adulthood. Your value to man will be measured not by what you know but rather how effectively you aid a world seeking peace and understanding. Adulthood demands continued growth, humility, and a willingness to use your re- sources to help make our world a better home for tomorrow’s youth. I thank the Class of '69 for the experiences you have shared with me and wish you suc- cess and happiness in the future. DANIEL KEEFE Guidance Director 4 The graduating class of 1969 has arrived. You have completed a chapter in your own lives, but in doing that you have influenced many other people, especially teachers and other students. Conversely, they have touch- ed your lives, contributing to your growth as persons. Vocational education does this in a special way — bringing people into closer relationship that stimulate one another’s po- tentials, attempting always to bring out the best in you. Our prayer and hope at Kaynor is that you continue to strive in this direction — influencing others, and letting their influ- ence on you bring out your best as a crafts- man and as a worthy citizen. JOHN L. ROSSI Director To the Class of 1969 As Kaynor Tech students your time at school has seen unprecedented worldwide happenings. Wars, narcotics, space achieve- ments, racial disorders, student protests, adult protest, have occupied a disproportion- ate part of the communcation services. Hope- fully you will accept these conditions as chal- lenges that can be corrected so that you can improve your world. You have the tools to achieve, I hope you have the desire. JOHN J. MILLS Assistant Director 5 MR. MANACK MISS BURNS DEDICATION We the class of 1969 dedicate our yearbook to Mr. Gary Manack, general instructor, Mr. Peter Pomponio, shop instructor, and Miss Anna Burns, school librarian. For their understanding and leadership. For their friendship and personal interest. For helping us to form ideals which we will carry with us in leaving Kaynor Technical School. We hope that by dedicating our yearbook to them it will show our appreciation for their many efforts. Yours sincerely, The Class of 1969 6 MR. POMPONIO The Class of 1969 wishes to take this opportunity to pay tribute to Mr. George Sender who, as our advisor, guided our class through its first two years. His personal interest and hard work with the students was an inspiration which we will all remember. His name is dearly engraved in the heart of our class. 7 ARNOLD BERG Carpentry RONALD BOUCHER Blueprint Reading l 9 LAWRENCE BROW Science F a c 9 6 RICHARD IF.RARDI Physical Education JOHN FELTH Automobile RICHARD FRANCIS Drafting FRANK LEVANTI Blueprint Reading )WARD KAMERZEL Electrical U RUDOLPH MANACEK English GARY MANACK English MICHAEL EMANUEL Science HARRY LAUGHERY Tool Die 9 DOMENIC MANCINI Paint and Body LOUIS RICCIUTI Social Studies MARY O'REILLY Beauty Culture PETER POMPONIO Machine RUTH PHELAN Mathematics LORRAINE EDWARI Pattern Drafting j l 1 10 ROBERT SUTTON Tool and Die mary McAlister English RONALD TABELLIONE Paint and Body 11 13 14 ROGER'S KITCHEN STAFF 15 Class History It was September of 1965 and we were bright eyed and bushy tailed from our successful conquest of grammar school. This inward drive propelled us into our first year at Kay nor and all were eager to see what it held in store for us. The polish soon wore off as we traveled through the new routine of exploratory shop and the helter-skelter related education schedule, which did little to hamper the making of friends. The year passed slowly for most of us until we settled in our prospective shops. Before one knew it we were Sophomores, the second step on the ladder of sec- ondary success. We grew in knowledge as tradesmen, and by now were in con- trol of our schedules. Driver education was one of the new courses introduced to us this year and for many this rated as 1 -A in the category. The class was now organized, officers were elected and everyone went to work raising funds. Summer was upon us and soon gone. We were Juniors and convinced we were the best. We were now advanced in our trades and felt personally profes- sional. In October, under a state program, we attended a performance of r'Mac- Bet h” at the American Shakespeare Festival Theater. Toward the end of the year we again attended a Shakespeare play As You Like ItThis was the year we held a few dances and cake sales and casual days to beef up our treasury. The Junior Prom and class rings were highlights of the year. We were Seniors now and buckled down to take care of and finish up the work. Committees were set up to take care of the yearbook, candy sales, dues and other pressing matters. We again went to Stratford to view Richard II a Shakesperian play. Days flew in anticipation of the Senior Prom and then that also came. It was Graduation Day and most of us for a few fleeting moments wondered why we were joyous about leaving. There is no doubt that these four years were the most important, and will strongly influence us the rest of our lives. The thought of the good times we had will never fade. Yes, the work was hard, painful and slow, but day by day we all did grow. In body, in mind and spirit too, we learned what we’ll need to get us through. We’ve learned to think and work with our hands and to get along with people as best we can. No problem is too great with what we have learned, and we can be proud to say, What we have, we've earned.’’ We should all be proud of the years that have passed, and hope for others that Kay nor shall last, to help them reach the goals they seek, to teach them to press on, to reach that peak. GRW1DPRE 141 To the Graduates of 1969 Gratitude is the memory of the heart” and it is with much gratitude that we share in serv- ing as advisors to the class of 1969. We hope that in some small way we have contributed to the total self of each member of this graduating class. Thank You THE WHITE HOUSE WASHINGTON TO THE 1969 GRADUATING CLASS WARREN KAYNOR TECHNICAL SCHOOL Ifeis is a day when congratulations are in order not only to the graduates but to the parents, teachers, and administrators whose efforts have helped to make this achievement possible. I extend my heartiest congratulations to all of you. At a time when there is much talk about the differences between the generations, I think it is useful to remark upon a similarity between your graduating class of 1969 and my graduating class of 1930. Your higfr school years have been historic ones. Wien you entered high school, man was making his elementary steps into space. In your senior year, three brave Americans journeyed around the moon. Wien I graduated from high school, only three years had passed since a man flew for the first time across the Atlantic Ocean. Despite the obvious difference in years, we have this in common: we all know what it is to be young at the start of an age of adventure. You will discover, as I did, that each person must make his own exploration of the world, make his own discoveries, shape his own triumphs, endure his own tragedies. Each of us is an explorer of himself, of history, of knowledge, of the intricate and beautiful and wonderful varieties of experience. Each of you will make a different kind of exploration, some in continued formal education, seme in industry or business or agriculture. Whatever your choice, learn. Learn all you can about yourself and the world. Your final year in high school was the beginning of an age of adventure, an age you will help to shape. You have ny highest hopes and best wishes. c T.
