I I I Panther ’68 Published by The Class of 1968 Warren F. Kaynor Regional Technical School Waterbary, Conn. Volume 13 Foreword The pathways through high school are memorable ones. We hope that through this book, we have portrayed a span of these pathways to the future upon which each of us travels. Education in itself is a wide and heavily traveled pathway. There are many ways to take; each leading to some goal set by those who are traveling upon it. Just as some roads are unpaved, so are many pathways to success. However, there are many rough and trying times, but if the goal is kept in view, all difficulties can be surmounted, and the pathway will have served its purjx)se of furnishing a means of guidance. We are proud of our faculty who are the guideposts along our pathway through high school. Without them our trek would be futile. With all these things in mind, we present to you the 1968 GROWL. MURPHY Director Division of Vocational-Technical Education TO THE CLASS OF '68 As the class of 1968 faces its farewell to the high school where it has received special education and training for the World of Work, you will detect a feeling that your specialized knowledge is greatly needed in our Connecticut industry and business. The Connecticut Yankee is generally thought of as an out- standing mechanic and person. It is hoped that each class member will continue to do his part to main- tain this reputation. Sincerely yours, Joseph F. Murphy, Director Division of Vocational Education RICHARD V. HOWES Assistant Director Division of Vocational-Technical Education Congratulations to the Class of 1968. Just as the world will note and will remember what you say and do. We hope Kaynor has helped you prepare in such a way that what you say and do” turn out to be good for you and those around you. Congratulations to each of you, with a wish for the best of everything that a good Providence can provide. John L. Rossi Director JOHN J. MILLS Assistant Director TO THE CLASS OF '68 Kaynor Tech is a better school because of the Class of 68”. Collectively, you have added to the school’s excellence and its traditions. Your youthful days have been clouded by tragedy at local national and international levels and you have still recognized the need for a better world. I am sure the confidence of your teachers will be justified with your actions in the future. I feel it a distinct privilege to have known such a fine group of young people as the Class of ”68”. J. J. Mills Assitant Director Dedication Wc the class of 1968, dedicate our yearly Panther to Mr. Ronald C . Boucher, related instructor and shop instructor Arnold Berg at Kaynor Technical School. Their guidance and advice has been very valuable to us as they have seen us through our devious years.” Mr. Boucher and Mr. Berg have earned our re- spect and admiration in the important time in our lives that we have spent with them. We are grateful for all their efforts in our behalf; , they not only have truly enhanced our class but also have personally harvested many friendships. Wc hope that all of us throughout the years to come will remember our class with fond memories. And with this dedication we extend to you our hopeful thanks and most sincere gratitude. DORIS CICCHIELLO KITCHEN: Roger—Rose Ann—Iva—Loretta—Beatrice £ N Class History Our freshman year began in September of 1964, a year that won't be for- gotten. That first year at Kaynor was the hardest. Making friends was the least confusing thing we did all year. Time flew by and before we realized it the year was over. The summer went by very fast and we entered our Sophomore year in Sep- tember. During the Sophomore year our class was organized, officers were elected, and we got down to business. Our class held dances and collected dues to build up our treasury. This year went by faster and another summer came upon us and left just as quickly. We started our Junior year in the same familiar halls with the same friends. The Junior year was a busy one; we collected dues, had a candy sale, a Christ- mas sale, and our Junior Prom. In June we knew this year had come and gone faster than the two before it. Another September brought our Senior year and with it came a lot of hard work. Dues were collected and the Yearbook Staff went to work on the year- book. We held a Halloween dance in October. Also that month, the senior and junior classes went to see Shakespeare’s play, Macbeth, at the Shakespeare Theater under a new Federally sponsored program started in the technical schools. After our Christmas vacation, we all looked forward to our prom in June. The four weeks between our prom and Graduation day seemed like the shortest month we spent at school in the four years we were there. When Graduation day came, the day we had waited four long years for, mixed emo- tions filled our heads. We were happy to be getting out, but felt sorry to leave the school. But everyone knew that the four years we had been in Kaynor Tech, were the best four years of our lives. And we as Panthers wait to make life what it should be. To quell a silent storm within as only the young can do, To batter in life what may come, to live as the chosen few.” A pride that swells within us all, a feeling that shouts I care.” To make us progress, to make us fight when hopes are dim; dreams rare. We’ll not take life as it may come, we'll separate happy and sad. The bad we’ll fling to the breeze, holding the good we’ve had. We’ll take a joyful path, the bonds of evil wc will sever, We’ll find our places in the sun if it takes forever and ever. We’ll find that we’ll be happy, and we will not be forsaken if we give our very best, if we leave more than taken. The Panther stands strong and tall majestic, fearless, and free. And we as Panthers will learn this is the way life should be. by Theresa Bruno mx C MOST POPULAR Armand Alessandrone Pamela Lancse 56 CLASS DRPAMP.R Joseph Ambrose Debbie Pries 57 59 OH eaj Cl clVW Set} • • • CLASS WIT Victor Colliti Barbara Stafford MOST QUIET Paul Ford Barbara Migliaro 61 CLASS FLIRT Frank Melvin Darra Detlefsen CLASS GROUCH Ernest Smith Loretta Rogers 63 CLASS BRAIN John Oliver Kay Mancini 65 66 ections We wish the Freshman Class the finest of luck in their four-year stay at Kaynor. This is a state- ment that was made in order to show why the young sometimes ignore the help that was given at one time or another. This, however, need not be used with this class. Your thoughtfulness, shown in the form of a gift, for the work that was done for you is sincerely appreciated. Thank You 143 THE WHITE HOUSE WASHINGTON TO THE 1968 GRADUATING CLASS W. F. KAYNOR TECHNICAL SCHOOL Let me extend to each of you the warm congratulations of a former teacher who, in spirit, shares your sense of achievement. You have laid a foundation for useful and satisfying lives. Before you get on with the work, I would like to offer a few thoughts that you may find useful. The passion to succeed, to achieve great things, is strongest in youth. Heed it. Do not squander your lives in petty pursuits. Commit yourselves now to a course that will strengthen you for the trials and opportunities of life. Prize your individuality always. Whatever your place in society, whatever your work, do not surrender your self-reliance or compromise your independence. Liberty is and always will be your most precious possession. Guard it well. Direct your energies, your talents, and your desires to what is best for yourselves and best for your country. We look to you to redeem what is wrong in our national past and to build what will be great in our national future. Let this be your wish: that you may look back upon this graduation -- from no matter how many years hence — with the conviction that ycu have treated all men with honesty and goodwill, that you have put your heart into your work, that you have done your best. l miwMm m$0@i ’$ , «: • ' 9%tm V- HHNsl mwmmmmmM
