X SUPERINTENDENTS MESSAGE The school year, 1949-50, has brought the realization of coveted goals in the rich field of education. Kaufman City Schools, pressing toward the very highest in main- tenance, attainment, and achievement, has steered a straight' course, persistent and con- sistent in plans for the care and development of healthy minds in healthy bodies. Special emphasis has been placed upon the education of special children, that education including screening for speech and hearing defects with instruction and training for these children in special courses designed for improvement and correction. Audio-visual equipment has been added for instruction, training, and enjoyment of all children. Driver education, individual and group instruction in band music, and choral training have been made parts of the ever-changing curriculum, while physical training for every child' now supplements his academic, vocational, and elective subjects. The school plant, enlarged by the addition of two buildings, now consists of eight well-equipped buildings. The faculty, likewise, has been increased by, three special teachers. Kaufman Schools are in step and on the march, alert to the challenge publicized in the remotest parts of our state that Texas school children must have superior edu- cational advantages. Kaufman youth deserves, must and will have the best which the state and local authorities can afford. Not least among Kaufman's latest additions is the football championship of District 17 A. Congratulations, Lions of 1949! May your championship in this realm of sports ever inspire you, all who have shared the joys of victory with you, and those who follow you to excel through physical well-being, mental health, moral and spiritual strength. Congratulations, Kaufman teachers, pupils, parents, and Board of Education. With dreams of the past come true, let us-continue to dream - thereby keeping our schools as modern and progressive as the bright hope of a beautiful tomorrow. Ben B. Hines
