Koerte. f A, Quarter notes, eighth notes, sharps and flats were familiar topics of discussion, as the glee club began a new year of activity. Mr. Lyman Hall, director, new but an asset to the school was able to produce a chorus of high caliber. Adding color to the Thanksgiving assembly, Christmas assembly, and Easter assembly, and finally climaxing the year with a spring con- cert, the glee club established itself in its performances. Three groups, the boys, girls and the mixed chorus, made up the club. The choristers familiarized students with selections of Negro spirituals, classical, reli- gious, and popular airs. Vainly produced sounds from the quonset hut were heard at the beginning of the school year. Gradually these nerve-wrecking screeches were transformed and combined to produce the steady flow of martial airs audi- tioned at our football games and at our pep rallies. Orchids go to Mr. Lyman Hall, the new band instructor, for his perserverance and untiring efforts to make the band an esteemed part of Kauai high. The band in a great surprise to the school launched the '49 Yuletide season with the rendition of a medley of Christmas carols at the Christmas assembly. Replenished with a supply of instruments the band completed the year with active par- gticipation and contribution to the school's activities of the year.
