Vainly produced sounds from the quonset hut were heard at the beginning of the school year. Gradually these nerve-wrecking screeches were transformed and combined to produce the steady flow of martial airs audi- tioned at our football games and at our pep rallies. Orchids go to Mr. Lyman Hall, the new band instructor, for his perserverance and untiring efforts to make the band an esteemed part of Kauai high. The band in a great surprise to the school launched the '49 Yuletide season with the rendition of a medley of Christmas carols at the Christmas assembly. Replenished with a supply of instruments the band completed the year with active par- gticipation and contribution to the school's activities of the year.
