Representatives from each social studies class, minor and major office-holders, and chairmen of the various student body com- mittees were gathered to discuss the needs and general well being of the student body. The councillors acted upon committee re- pcrts and planned many activities of which the student body dance and nomination of May King and May Queen ranked as some cf the more important, A new voting system introduced by the Ballot Committee was ap- proved by the council and set up as the permanent voting procedure of Kauai High School. The executive council, consisted of the student body officers and four class presidents, met with the school principal and school counselor to draw up the agenda for each student council meeting. The new provisional court system presented to and approved by the majority was set up by this executive council. Student body and class officers of Waimea, Kapaa, and Kauai High School held an inter- school council meeting at Kauai High. Sug- gestions and problems concerning the gov- ernments of the three schools were exchanged. The squad this year stressed guidance instead of the arrest of offenders. Watching lunch lines, collecting lunch money, and checking for tickets and activity cards at games were other duties of this respected organization. Arrests were referred to the student court to be tried, This year, Kauai High School operated on a very modern school court system. Order, order in the court was often echoed by Chief Justice Edward Hanki. Jack Wakayama, prosecuting attorney, was fair and judicious, Capable Albert Nishihara showed wisdom as defense attorney. Minnie Tokunaga and Ccnstancia Santos worked industriously as clerks. With this proficient crew the apprehended were put to a fair trial before the jury consisting of Bar- bara Yamamoto, Stanley lsoda, David Wood, Alfredo Ragasa, and Clorinda Nagaoka. Through all its accomplishments the court had one ultimate goal-to teach students to become respon- sible American citizens. Row I, left to right: B. Kimura, E. Hiraoka, N. Fujii, H.
