They had come to learn reading, 'riting and 'rithme- tic. Twenty-one starry-eyed children waved good-by with a look of satisfaction on their faces on the last day of school. As a whole, they felt their mission was accomplished. And they believed the gaining of these basic skills the most im- portant thing they did! Besides this, they carried on an interesting science program, making beautiful individual collections of rocks, leaves, seeds, shells and butterflies. These children also enjoyed the usual round of party and refreshments with Mrs. Gordon Fussell as room mother chair- man. Pictured at left the children enjoyed making the small ceramic dishes which they glazed themselves for their parents' Christmas gifts. Look on page 29 for another picture of this group. S

' One activity that showed overwhelm- ing enthusiasm in the fall was the collecting of rocks, leaves, and seeds. Other activities were watching tadpoles, rabbits, puppies and other pets. The first money from P.T.A., for most mothers present, went to purchase an aquarium and some fish. This provided opportunity for the children to write about their observations and gave them responsibility to care for the fish. Room mother chairman for the year was lVlrs. Rogers Hoyt. iq. A Pictured at the left was a happy day, espe- cially for Rebecca Lammert who found the golden egg that won her the white rabbit. 4 Pj On page 29 is another picture of this room. 4 454 'w.'. Il

As we came to the close of our first year in public school, we looked back and re- membered a wonderful year. lt's that way because we worked to make it so. Mrs. Mar- vin Brown and all our mothers made Hallo- ween, Christmas, Valentineis Day and Easter real special days. Visitors who came by to say hello helped us enjoyg the gingerbread family, the musical Christmas tree, public school week, the egg tree, our stick horses, the setting hen, our tall grass zoo and our room award money. These stick horses were made and rode to the rodeo grounds to see the animals on exhibit in the barns. Turn to page 29 to see 2 other pictures.
