Katella High School's football season ended with a 2 win 5 loss record. The Knights had a victory over Mission Viejo, then lost 5 straight games, but came into their own with a muddy 7-0 win in a game that raised them from the cellar of the Crestview League. The game which kept both Katella and Orange on the ground due to rain, had its only score on a key fum- ble recovery by Volker Schrezenmeier on the Orange 16 yard line. The Knights then drove down to the one yard line where quarterback Lanny 'Gore scored on a one yard plunge. The Knights defense then rose to the occasion allowing the Orange Panthers only one yard net gain in the second half to preserve the win and conclude the 73-74 football season. 74 Football I. Larry Recker and Don Walters blocked the oncoming defense. :Ns Katella quarterback, Lanny Core passed out of the pocket, against Foothill as he got blocking from tackle Ioe Barney, center Ron McLaughlin, and halfback Rory Bertania. Revenge-minded El Modena came to La Palma Stadium ready to play as they shocked the Knights 17-7. Despite the efforts of Glenn Evans on his touchdown scoring catch, the Knight's were behind most of the game. The first half was all El Modena as they rambled up the Katella middle. Coming out after halftime, Katella began throwing. Moving down the field, Sater hit Evans for a touchdown. The defense began to halt the Vanguard's running game, but it was too late for the Knights as they were unable to overcome El Mo's lead. R. Minarsch 69 R. Goddard 70 Guard Tackle M.
