X ff. Dark of the Moon, the mid-year drama pro- duction, opened the eyes of Kahi teeny- boppers to the world of witches, white lightnin', and foot-washin' Baptists. Al- though white lightning was nothing new to some of the audience, the rape scene and good country music provided ample stimu- lation to their eager cerebrums. The story involved a loose and well-known country girl named Barbara Allen, who caused a stir of controversy in the small town by marry- ing Iohn, the witch boy. In typical melo- dramatic style, Barbara Allen dies in the end, and John goes back to the halter- topped witch lovelies. Director Mrs. Ninah Conlyn's esprit-de- corps gave added life to the play, along with the prop and stage crew's between-the- scenes excitement. Top Left: Teresa Craven as Barbara Allen, and Bill Brummel as John, discussed the dubious legitimacy of their child, who happened to be a- burnin' in the yard. Middle Left: My pockets was empty and my shoes was worn, so I had to take the cash from the register drawer, repented Uncle Smelicue tDave Frehlerl, to Preacher Haggler and the rest of the mourners bench. Bottom Left: Unscrupulous witches, who always got what they wanted, manipulated Conjur Man fRichard Comeauj, into betting the life of Barbara Allen, Above: Barbara Allen, saved by the grace, fell prey to the will a Cawd, Activities 61

Most of the first semester was spent planning for spring field-trips to Featherly and O'Neil Parks, and a trip to Lake Elsinore. The club also became involved in city planning for bike trails. Chess is a thinking sport, that stimu- lates and trains you to look at all angles of a problem. The Chess Club practiced hard at their meetings and showed their talent and skills at tournaments with other schools. Activities 63 i
