The Katella Band and Chevalier Drill Team marched to the tune of two new advisors in 1974. Mr. Bob Cotton directed the band and Mrs. Ioan Hueter advised the drill team. Under the leadership of drum major Cwary Templin and his assistants Marty Johnson and Randy Lillie, the musical marching squad performed and competed successfully throughout the year. Patti Ditmar, Rosalind Hood, Laura Morte, Edrie Killingbeck and Teresa Craven put forth long hours in executing their authority and guidance over the drill team. Practice for these groups, beginning in early August entailed getting up with and sometimes without the sun. The learning of music and routines occupied much of their time in preparing for the wall-to-wall schedule of fall performances. The excite- ment of the parade season brought honors to the Knights units including the band, drill team, twirler, and percussion squads. All these units placed respectively at Rosemead, Santa Monica, West Arcadia, and All Western Band Review. Pam Pietrok, Katella's solo twirler received a first or second place at every competition while the drum squad placed first at both Santa Monica and West Arcadia parades. Also out in front to present Katella were the banner carriers led by Karla Kjellin and the flag carriers led by Cheryl King. Our band and drill team found that the high spirit of competitiveness and enthusiasm made all the hard work and practice worthwhile. . r t Top Row C Padilla L Cunningham K Forde L Eberhard B Goodman S Whitman, S.Scriba, L.Marin.
