This year's Sophomore baseball team attacked the sport with enthusiasm and a will to learn and win. These combinations were blended together by Coach Werschke to make another sophomore league contender. It was a young team which played the style of baseball that Katella is famous for which is relying on its pitching and fielding ability to win their games. Some of the key players on this year's squad were pitcher Bill Small whose pitch- ing kept the Sophomores in many of their games. Bill Benbow and lim O'dwyer also were keys to the Sophomore's success in league play. At short stop Benbow added to Sophomore victories thru key plays. The power hitting demonstrated by lim O'dywer added the needed punch to keep the team in contention all year. ABOVE LEFT: Sophomore Bill Small showed team leadership on the mound as well as at the plate. ABOVE: Sophom0re's strong outfield was mainly attributed to Steve Gaddis, LEFT: Leading the team in batting averages, was Sophomore ace Artie Mory. BELOW: Batter Tim Howells also contributed to Sophomore victories with solid hitting. 2-Swv Nmfilt. - . was st at

This year's tennis team through hustle and desire earned a third place finish in the Crestview League with a 9-5 record. With only one returning letterman Coach Gary Smith had to rely heavily on his juniors and sophomores. The team was led in singles by Tom Howell who established an overall record of 77-7. White the doubles team of Mike Krick and Ron Gar- ber combined to make the third best doubles team in the league. With two years of experience next year's tennis chances for Katella seem bright with seven returning letter- men. Tennis-'l'l'l
