EQ . -N K With only six returning lettermen and most of last year's pitching staff gone, Coach Noel Sweeney tried to find a way to make Katella a league con- tender. ln pre-season play, there were a lot of changes in the infield and outfield in every game, and Katella usually lost each contest by one or two runs due to errors and a lack of experience. But as pre-season wore on the Knights began to blossom into a winning ball club by reducing the number of errors, and thus won their last three games of pre-season. But as the Crestview circuit rolled around, the Sweeneymen were stopped cold. Their first round in league action showed no victories and one tie. Coach Sweeney then decided to Sal- vage the season by playing the younger, less ex- perienced sophomores and juniors in an effort to build for '74, Bright individual performances were turned in by sophomore Brad Purcha, juniors Mike Carson and Bill Keith, and senior Tim Roddam, on route to posting a league record of 3-10-1. -ll?
