ff The 1973 Varsity Track Team was hampered by a lack of depth, and the loss of two valuable seniors lim Nied- hart and Darryl DiSanto. Coach lack Bighead, Mike Cochrane, and Ed Less- ard tried to put together a winning track team with individuals like Mike Baker, Roy Sikora, and George Bement. These individuals kept Katella in every track meet with first place wins in the pole vault, high jump, and hurdles respectively. A special individual effort was put forth by senior Mike Baker, which enabled him to become the top pole vaulter in the state. Despite dis- sapointments, and the lack of depth, the Katella Thinclads kept a winning attitude enroute to posting an overall record of 0-9. ABOVE: Mike Baker broke his own school record against Orange. RIGHT: Pete Grey used his kick to outsprint the Orange opponent in the 440. ABOVE RIGHT: Roy Sikora leaped to another first place finish against Orange. The perfect handoff was excuted on the 440 relay by George Bement and Ed Kierulff . ' lf ,. N' u f ,... y gp, ,S -.. ,.
