We had to fill in those little white cards given to us by the Dean's smiling secretary. After that task was completed a counselor re- viewed them and offered us any needed advice. The ordeal seemed to be over, but as we pre- pared to leave we were again confronted by the Dean's secretary who had an outstretched palm! She very graciously accepted our money, and in return the doors of knowledge 'were opened to us. xml N - - me . .. ww' mx een 1 ,si ea 'QQ Ms,- ' as ,,, ,Y . . aw.- , . Wiwiwnw lVe're not always like this. Met and made new friends Everyone needs a little recreation and re- laxation to get away from the hum-drum routine. During our explorations, we found an ideal spot, the rec room. The people con- gregated there seemed to have taken off their schoolroom ,masek. Little did we know that some of us would be spending most of our free time there. And no wonderg it was a good place to get to know the lighter side of the kids better. We renewed old friendships and made a lot of new friends. It seems that this year more out-of-town students than usual joined our ranks, and we gladly welcomed them. After visiting in the rec room for a while, we toured the campus finding five buildings in all, each identified by a. letter-A, B. C, T, V tno connection with a television sta- tionl. Keeping Posted Checking the bulletin board we found ourselves cordially invited to attend an assembly. The purpose of the assembly was for the presentation of a scholar- ship by the Business and Professional Women's Club. This scholarship is an annual award given to a girl graduate of C. T. H. S. for her outstanding citizenship, high scholastic standing, and participation in many activities. 10 Say, I think Fm going to like this! As we continued our wan- dering, we became familiar with our study facilities. The class room, of course, was the main source of knowl- edge. But we soonf found that our library, too, contain- ed a wealth of information and lots of good books. And there comes a time in every- one's life when he must stop whatever he's doing and obey his stomach's beck and call. So we fell in line with other hungry students and enjoyed a good lunch at the school cafeteria, as we chat- ted about lessons and such- mostly about such. Though tired after it was all over, we felt rich, assured of a better yearbook and an all-school picnic. But even so, the social committee coulrdn't slow down. They must plan for a basketball banquet. But 'first look! Here's a poster inviting us to a square dance featuring the Lawrence- ville Swingsters. But all our school year was not entertainment. We worried and fretted, but somehow things seemed to work out O.K. And in September, l940, the organization being completed, the Centralia Township lunior College was opened. During the early years the administration strove to overcome the problem of a newly-established school with a small enrollment and a limited curriculum. Go, Robert go Our Conference Champs. we're proud of you Coach Mundell's Blue Devils finished with an 18-5 record at the end of the 1954-55 basketball sea- son. As in previous years the Blue Devils' main hazard was height. But the Blue Devils proved they could rebound with the best of them by twice de- feating the exceptionally tall St. Louis Freshmen, once at Kiel Auditorium and once at Trout Gym. The Blue Devils again won the Central Illinois Confereinlce by twice defeating Lincoln, Springfield Junior College, and by splitting two games with Lincoln Bible Institute giving the Blue Devils a 5-I conference record. In the Centralia Invitational Tournament, Cen- tralia and Hannibal-LaGrange of Missouri easily reached the finals by defeating Vincennes and Belleville respectively. Vincennes Won third place and Hannibal slipped by the Blue Devils for first place with the Blue Devils taking the second placc trophy. At Hannibal, Missouri, the place of competition for the Region II National Junior College Athletic Association Tournament, the Blue Devils defeated Lincoln to go into the finals again'st Hannibal. The Blue Devils played excellent ball, but Hannibal won 77-76 to represent Region II at Hutchinson, Kansas. George Marcum and Robert Welch were the first two choices selected on the All-Tournament team. Robert Welch, also received the Good Sportsmanship Cup.
