Louisiana January 26, 1939 Students, Kaplan Ulgh School Kaplan, Louisiana Dear Friends Recently published reports of Russian scientific achievutwnts lave created anxiety and the feeling that re-evaluation of the African education Syster should be oade for the purpose of deternlnlng whether or not the Russian education Systen is superior to ours. As American students, this is of Interest to you. 1« A study of the two educational systeva establishes that the Russian systen is one of selection under which the gifted receive very serloue training in Science and Kathetaticc principally, to the exclusion of other subjects. The American systen on the other hand has been built upon the prealsc of equality. It is based on the derocratlc convic- tion that extra-ordinary qualities arc present in ordinary people and that In every person there is the potential to rise to great heights and that all phases of education are Important. Very truly yours C. J. LcDet, Superintendent oretlion Parish Schools CJL lf

KM k With this school year swiftly closing, we now pause to catch a glimpse of the happiness and friends we have en- joyed. Many things have happened in these past twelve years, which we will remember for a lifetime, but somehow we find ourselves holding very close to our hearts and minds the experiences that we have shared in this past year. This year of 1959 will live on in our memories forever. It is with much happiness that we present to you our 1959 Jolly Roger. In later years, when you are turning the pages, we hope you will remember the dreams, the sorrows, and the smiles of 1959. Jolly Roger Staff Editor Virgie Dronet
