r ncipa. This year's annual, so well prepared by a group of out- standing pupils, illustrates the many experiences which assist in meeting the common, as well as the individual, educational needs of the youth in the Kaplan High School. All of these educational experiences provide the under- standing, habits, attitudes, and ideals, based on impor- tant knowledges and skills, for present and future living in a changing world. The staff and the advisors are to be congratulated for doing an outstanding piece of work.

Mssm Dedication COACH JOE KITE For his outstanding services, both on and off the ath- letic field, we the Jolly Roger staff dedicate our 1959 yearbook to Mr. Joe Kite. A home town boy who made good, Joe Kite is commended for his able leadership of youth through his understanding, because he so recently passed that way himself. Both by example and training is he well suited to raise the standards of the youth of Kaplan High. Well known are his excellent academic standing in high school and college and his enviable rec- ord as an all-around athlete in high school, college, and in the service. His rigid standards of perseverance, good sportsmanship and good citizenship with which he imbues his players are well known to all. He is indeed a builder of men.

Louisiana January 26, 1939 Students, Kaplan Ulgh School Kaplan, Louisiana Dear Friends Recently published reports of Russian scientific achievutwnts lave created anxiety and the feeling that re-evaluation of the African education Syster should be oade for the purpose of deternlnlng whether or not the Russian education Systen is superior to ours. As American students, this is of Interest to you. 1« A study of the two educational systeva establishes that the Russian systen is one of selection under which the gifted receive very serloue training in Science and Kathetaticc principally, to the exclusion of other subjects. The American systen on the other hand has been built upon the prealsc of equality. It is based on the derocratlc convic- tion that extra-ordinary qualities arc present in ordinary people and that In every person there is the potential to rise to great heights and that all phases of education are Important. Very truly yours C. J. LcDet, Superintendent oretlion Parish Schools CJL lf
