As a person goes through life, he makes' new friends, strength- ens existing ones, and loses present friends. We, Kansas Wesleyan, lost a true friend when we Iost'George Taylor. Dr. Taylor was an instructor who cared about the students in his classes and was willing to take time to help them work out their problems. He was a friend to the administration, to the faculty, staff, and to the students. Dr. Taylor is deeply missed at Wesleyan. G Dr. Ta lor, in addition to his teaching of Sociol- ogy ancl! Anthropology, sponsored for three years in a row, an archaelogical dig on the Smokey Hill River near Salina. In addition, his antro ological class frequently traveled to Colorado anclJNew Mexico to study the Plains Indians . This year's football team had little chance to know what good they were, having won only three out of ten games. They were eighth in a league of nine. The team began the season by defeating Ba- ker 13-12. Afterwards they began the long walk to the celler. They did, however, win two more games, but they lost to Bethany 0- 25 and they lost the homecoming to Sterling 13-24. The football team still preserved the tradition of falling to Colorado College 35-50. The highlight of the year was Ron West. He rushed for 1,632 yards and became the forth leading rusher in the NAIA, and the first in the KCAC. He was the unanimous choice for all KCAC. Thomas Jackson was given honor- able mention. K.W. This was not the case. The 77 Coyotes racked up a record of 9-7 in the KCAC with a win over co-champion South- western and a 13-11 overall record. The team broke some records like the most points scored in a single game, 122, and the most field goals attempted, 101, both against Mid-America Nazarene. The team also came with most rebounds in one season 1104, and the highest average amount of rebounds per game, 46.0. All KCAC Tim Teeter led the conference in rebounds with a school record of 378 rebounds in a single season. Teeter also led the KCAC in scoring per centages with a 22.9. He has a school record of most consecutive free throws made consisting of 27 over five games. Teeter finished his career with the sec- ond hlghest amount of total points of any coyote cager and being only the fourth to earn over one thou- sand points in just three years. Tim Teeter has the third highest number of rebounds in school history. He was selected All District 410 the second year in a row. Dave Brown, the other all KCAC, led the team in free throw per centages with .876 and has the second highest free throw per centage in the school history. He was number two scorer in the KCAC with 20.6 average per game. Jeff Laha broke the school record in the number of assists in a single season with 106. The Kansas Wesleyan Tennis Team faced a number of difficulties this year: rain, a cold spring, high winds, young play- ers, and stiff competition. Even with undefeated Bethany walking away with the KCAC Tournament, Kansas Wesleyan saw several bright spots this season. Highlights included placing in two different tournaments lthe ACCK and Hays Invita- tionall and beating Sterling in a Dual Match. Coached by Sam Leonard, and assisted by Joe Snyder, the Coyotes were represented by three juniors, two sophomore, and one freshman. The team finished the season with the following line-up: Ray Brown Playing 41 singles and 41 doubles, Dean Ellison playing 42 singles and W2 doubles, Ken Heisz playing 43 singles and 32 doubles, Ron Weber playing 44 singles and 41 doubles, John Aragon playing 45 singles and 43 doubles, and Kenny Hudson playing 36 singles and 43 doubles. With each match, skill development and competitive ability improved. In the final analysis, one sure statement can be made about the 1976-77 season: The Kansas Wesleyan Tennis Team had a good time! Editor's Page As the Editor of this yearbook, l find it is my humble duty to write a short brief about the past year. Despite the many internal agitations among the sta f members, I am nevertheless, proud to say that the 1976-77 Kansas Wesleyan Coyote Yearbook is by all intents and purposes, a finished product. What you have in your hand, is the product of the past years trials and tribulations experienced by the students, faculty, and yes, the administration here at Kansas Wesleyan. You as an in- dividual, can do what i ou like with it. You can cherish it, tear it apart and throw darts at it, or roll it and smoke it. All l know is, that the gem of an idea became the reality, in both black and white and color, of what you possess in this yearbook. Russell A. Neely Coyote Editor THANK YOU The 1976-77 Coyote is the work and effort of many people. Not only that of the editor and staff, but many individuals who gave up their spare time in order to see the completion of this yearbook. We would like to extend a personal thanks to Charlie Lang, Josten's yearbook representative, for all the help he gave us. He answered our questions day or night, in the middle of Monday Night Football, or on the weekend. We would also like to thank Josten's Yearbook Com- pany. A special thanks to Charla Jenkins for supplying us with pic- tures when we were unable to acquire them on our own. Thanks to Warner Brother's Inc. for allowing us to use Wile E. Coyote in our yearbook. We would also like to express a sincere thanks to all the students who were not on the staff, who gave of their time and energy. The year- book could not have been finished without the help of everyone of you. THE 1976-77 COYOTE STAFF fqwwdaff Lo 0-wefm.,
