But success can- not be measured in victories alone. Other factors, such as injuries to key players and a vigorous sched- ule, must also be considered. Though success could not be measured in the traditional sense this past year, the input of new blood into the Wesleyan line-up assures them of placing high in the KCAC in years to come. While not capturing any team honors this season, the 1972 Coyote squad left a stream of accomplishments in their wake which will not soon be forgotten. Coach Bissell notched his 100th victory when the Coyotes downed Tabor 20-13. Ed Brewer became the second Coyote, in many years, to capture the KCAC rushing crown 61.0241 Ed also finished 19th in the NAIA. Mike McCrory dazzled the crowds by breaking both the single season and career pass reception records, total yards pass receiving, single game receptions, and leadingthe KCAC in pass receptions and yards per catch. More records tumbled as John Hartshorn became the best punter in Wesleyan's history. John also set the i l 'lt mtg single game pass attempts record and tied the com- pletion record against Southwestern. Rick Gerner added to the record books by breaking the career kick- off return yardage record by accumulating 657 yards over four years. is .5 . ,a The Coyotes saw three of their players, Frank Limanni, Bob Loersch and Ed Brewer, named to the All-KCAC squad. Bob Loersch was subsequently named to the All-NAIA District 10 team. xnxx K 'WM 4 . 1 . .,,,,,i T Y ,Fi trit . . T. T if T B X I 'c I e . H ,. Lg . Graduating this year were: Bill Paprota, John Hartshorn, Bob Loersch, Jim Brown, Mike McCrory, Paul Hulsey, Ron Smith, Steve Shrader, Ken Kreisberg, Rick Gerner, and Ed Brewer. Basketball Kansas Wesleyan's basketball team finished the 1972-73 season with an overall record of 3-19. The Coyotes could not shake their KCAC losing streak, which over the past two seasons has stretched to 31 straight losses. The Coyotes were O-16 against conference teams, 3-3 in non-conference play. The losing span of the past three years has produced a potential superplayer in Charles Green. The 6-1 forward gunned in 411 points to lead the 1972-73 squad and shatter former Little All-American Gary CasseII's sophomore scoring record of 364 points. ln two seasons Green has moved to 20th on the career scoring lists with 741 points. Larry Moore, a 6-O senior from Kansas City, Missouri, finished his career in 19th position, with 748 points. Moore, Wesleyan's only upperclassman, finishes with an 11.4 scoring average in 66 starts. He is Wesleyan's only three-time captain in basketball history. Moore scored 279 points this past season, a 12.7 average. Much of his career was ham- pered with injuries. Clyde Murrell was the most important sixth man, coming offthe bench much of the season but finishing second in scoringto Charles Green. Murrell averaged 13.2 points per game in 22 contests. He was also second in rebounding. Two freshmen had impressive years. Sheldon Woolery, a 6-5 center from Mullinville, Kansas, led the team in field goal accuracy, hitting 50476 of his 120 field goal attempts. He also finished third in rebounding with 132. Larry Hay- ford, who moved into a starting role at mid-season led the club in free throw shooting, hitting 79.1fZn of his attempts. not 35 7 6 71 W ti '99 tm- .1-Q' 'iv 1 , V-N4 'fu - N 3 'V' ,,..,.....W NM 5 . . ul! fm- , ,M,qf ' 'v-v V... .,..---sf F gulf 'i MU , ' '.- 4' 0 0 usa!- S ' ' s Q' 'vs i 1 N 'POI 9155 x . x A- X . ,M if ' A 911 25 mile. fl' J gk ' 5 E 5 .2 Iii gffiififggiis' . k Aw M, W V uw 1 .,,QgQ .f f X .. fy N5 Q, M2422-' -. - vii!! .5 ' ' -L N. ,,.,,,,..
