Jhwkr I O03 I PROLOGUE: THE BEST IDEA WE EVER HAD I We still cannot believe vve are doing this. Last year's JAYHAWKER was unique in every sense H to the yearbooks that came before, but even that was not far enough. Where the Annual MMV sought to capture the full vibrancy of life at KU, the Annual E006 will try to strip that life down ' to its very essence: the dynamic of young adults engaging the world, and in the process, them- selves. ll To that end, we brought this book back to its core: black 81 white photographs, some constructed with a purpose, others stumbled across by accident, but all of them illustrative of both the creativity of this staff and the energy of this campus. In these photos land the Free for All quotes, we wouldn't dare leave those outj we think you will find an energy that signifies the distinctiveness of our fair town and the spirit of this very publication, a yearbook novv in , its 118th year, but needing your help to continue on. ll While it may seem most counterintui- tive in this era of the ubiquitous cell phone camera, the multi-hued iPod, and the widescreen laptop, the idea of getting back to basics is both welcome and necessary from time to time. We wish we had thought of it sooner, but then it would not be as striking and sublime as it is novv.
