This past homecoming KU added two new traditions - a kissing record amd student housing joining the homecoming contests. The normal contests oferaziest lim. mural painting. Chalk 'N Rock. The week ol'ex ents culminated with Late N ight in the Phog and Homecoming day activi- ties. including tt loothall game and parade. Late Night on Friday, Oct. 17. featured K.l.S.S.. Keeping In School Spirit. sponsored by Guiness Book ol'World Records and Hcrsht-y's Kiss. The Homecoming Steering Committee prompted lims to break the old record lor number ol couples kissing at once. With l.632 kissing couples. thc University surpassed the record ol 1.582 couples. Alpha Delta Pi sorority and Triangle lraternity spent three weeks eonstrueting their lloat. whieh showed a Baylor Bear' approaelringa,lay hawk on a livotlvall lield. Getting the moving parts to work at the eorreet time was the hardest part olputting the lloat together. liverley said. Younger members olthe lraternity sat under the loonlmall lield and made the parts move. The eraxiest lan did not have his own lloat. hut painted his entire hody erimson and hlue and donned a spandex wrestling suit with red lishnet stoekings lor the event. He did jump roping trieks and ran through the parade interaeting with speetators. The lootball team laeed Baylor in the Homeeoming garne later that day. lt was a hard lought mateh but the Jayhawks eame away with a seeond eonseeutive home win and a seore ol'28-Qi.
