KTI - The hope for Tomorrow
The spirit of enthusiasm of the KTI student
body is most encouraging. With many schools
plagued b problems, some even faced with
possible cllosing in the next few years, KTI
has a hope for an exciting future. Why?
Several reasons come to mind, but there are
two important reasons for a cheerful, opti-
mistic outlook on campus. First, KTI is a new
school, with new ideas and with students
deeply involved in "Building and Institutional
Image" . Second, KTI is a Technological
Center - a new emerging concept in higher
education that has a promise of a bright future
as we move toward and into the 21st Centmuy.
In both reasons, there is purpose - a purpose
for students that is real and challenging and a
purpose for an institution which will play an
important role in the technological society of
the future .
Isn't it great to be a part of something with
such a purpose?

In Memory
Of
James 0. Thompson, Jr.
James O. Thompson, Jr. became the
second President of Kansas Technical Insti-
tute on October 4, 1971. He resigned, as
President, on june 30, 1976 because of his
declining health. His progressive illness
bgaxaght about his death on February 13,
During his tenure as President of the In-
stitute he was successful in preserving the
school through many a political struggle
which threatened to close or relocate the
Institution.
The last year of his administrative duties
was marked by legislative action which
transferred control of the Institute from the
State Board of Education to the State Board
of Regents. Although retired, he lived to
see the fulfillment of long years of hard
work by the faculty and administration in
the action of E. C.P.D. accreditation of
the programs at KTI .
It is only fitting to pay tribute to Mr.
Thompson's contribution to KTI's develop-
ment during its early years of sLu'vival.
