Real-life challenges faced students when they volunteered to participate in Relay for Life, the all-night benefit walk for cancer victims, and worked as court-appointed assistants for children. Productions at McCain Audito- rium like Jesus Christ Superstar and Cinderella helped students working behind the scenes and those watching in the audience find a common cultural core. Soap operas not only dominated afternoon programming, but also students ' time as devoted fans struggled to keep updated. Different interests bound students together in a tightly-knit group that shared a common core of K-State. CORE.
