Murray Levin, described as an authority on the New Left, discussed the motivation and goals of the movement. Quaker worker Eric Wright, re- cently returned from three years ' service in Vietnam at a rehabilita- tion center operated by Quakers, dis- cussed the effects of the Indochina war on Vietnam and the United States. Application of yoga for the solution of man ' s problems was the topic for Acharya Vimalananda Avadhuta, a guru. Known to his students as Da- dajii, he was on lecture tour in the United States to dispel popular misconceptions about Indian philosophy. Three time Emmy Award winner Frederick Wiseman explained his ideas on the use of cinema-verite, a technique of making documentaries with a hand-held camera. He used the technique to produce a filmed statement about his subject. University for Man presented an Alternatives Conference during the fall semester. At this conference, students heard lectures by Phil War- dell, former member of the American Council on Education in Washington D.C. and Patty O ' Bryan from Phila- delphia ' s Institute for Educational Development. James Kavanagh, ex-priest and author, lectured at the Sexual Awareness Conference in the spring. Author of A Modern Priest Looks at his Outdated Church and Some Men are too Gentle to Live Among Wolves, Kavanagh discussed how campuses could meet the sexual needs of the students. Music department creates a theater and concert series Broadway Theater Series, Man- hattan Artist Series and the Concert Series brought 12 productions into the new K-State auditorium. Both the Broadway Series and the Concert Series are new to K-State with only the Artist Series being held over from previous years. Auditorium manager Mark Oiling. ton indicated that the reason for es- tablishing the Theater Series was to bring touring Broadway shows to K- State. He also said the purpose of starting the Concert Series was to attract a variety of music such as opera, to the University community. George M initiated the Theater Series, followed by 40 Carats, Hadrian VII and 1776. Manhattan Artist Series began its season with a chamber orchestra from Yugoslavia, I Solisti Di Zagreb. Metropolitan opera singer Eileen Farrell appeared next, followed by the choral group Gregg-Smith Sing- ers and pianist Van Cliburn. In the Concert Series, the opera Marriage of Figaro, by the Kansas City Lyric Theater, headed the list. Following was Les Ballets Africains a Republic of Guinea dance group, an India sitar player Debu Chaudhuri, Emlyn Williams with a solo reading of An Evening with Dickens and Nelson-Gadd a violin and piano duo. Tony Tanner, musical and comedy star from England, makes up for a performance of George M. at the newly completed auditorium. Founded in 1964. The Moscow Trio Music Series. The trio consists of performs as part of the Chamber Moscow Conservatory professors. Les Ballets Africains. a company musicians. perform one of four of African dancers, singers and musical story-telling dances. 32
