Student Senate elections generate Humanity Party For the first time in a number of years a political party made an ac- tive appearance during the SGA elec- tion campaign. A group of students who knew each other and previous- ly had worked together on other projects, decided to try to gain a majority of Senate seats in order to form a voting block. The student body presidency was decided in a run-off election in which R. D. Harmon narrowly defeated John Ronneau by 89 votes. Once again only 20 per cent of the student body voted. The newly elected stu- dent body president, R. D. Harmon said, I was really surprised at the large number of people that came out again to vote. Using voting as an indicator, it can be assumed that many students ei- ther don ' t care about or are totally unaffected by Student Senate legis- lation. To many students it is simply a group of fellow students distribut- ing activity fees each semester with not much power beyond that. If stu- dents don ' t take an interest in or care about SGA, can it perform a mean- ingful function? Survivors of the general election for nau and R. D.
