FEATURES Features develop the University ' s personality, changing it with the seasons, modifying old hab- its and introducing new ones. Some features are contemporary Roger Miller in concert, a salute to Expo, a Homecoming house decoration but they are remembered. Others are more lasting, more essential to the foundation of the Universi- ty. Men of politics and religion, of science and art, bring their experiences and wisdom to stu- dents. And students test their own depths of knowledge through competition, performance and creativity. Together they reveal frames of the University ' s personality, frames of exuberance, youth, the striving for excellence that comprise its features and remain etched in the minds of stu- dents for years to come. Through these features, the Universitv comes alive. 13

,! To prepare for a future profession, a student enrolled in the five-year architecture curriculum must spend long hours carefully drawing and reproducing blue- prints for structures he may someday design. Spectators eat carmel apples while cheering for their favorite teams during Derby Day events. University students find their lives ruled by time Time was the key word for students rushing to classes, to meals and to meet their dates. Lack of time was the common lament as finals or vacation time approached. A semester ' s time was too short in which to thoroughly understand subject matter in a difficult course and too long between reun- ions with family and friends at home. In a year s time, most students attitudes, ideas and friendships caused them anxieties and end- less frustrations; but, only with more time, was their significance fully understood. 14
