Photo by Perry Riddle Buildings are measures of school ' s development Buildings are faces of University development, faces that reflect past accomplishments and fu- ture development. Tradition lingers from another era in the form of ivy-covered landmarks while progress is shaped in massive structures of con- crete and glass. But the University experiences more than an outward change. Construction masks an inner growth, an expansion of programs and goals measured not in millions of dollars but in the continual search for the face of progress. The 1968 Royal Purple reflects this year of devel- opment at Kansas State University.

Photo by David von Riesei 7 ' - V ' %. - 1 -. -- X lit Stadium and auditorium head expansion projects Paralleling the growth of the University ' s aca- demic programs and enrollment, construction enters the largest period of expansion in nearly 20 years. As blueprints for a stadium, an auditorium and a motel-convention center are converted into man-hours of digging, drilling and building, ex- pectations are changed into realizations. Progress is measured in the transition between old and new while Wildcat fans cheer in Memorial Stadium for the last Saturday afternoon, con- struction crews scoop out sod at the new stadium site. Cranes and earth-movers break the perma- nency of campus skylines and hint that the Uni- versity is not bounded by stone walls. As strange limestone shells merge with familiar ones, stu- dents adapt to the changed look of the University and anticipate future development, an indication that educational challenges will be met.
