Her willingness to share her informal and informative experiences, which glive us a better under- standing of her personality, has een instructive and in- formative to many of us. A native of Johnson County, having lived in Stanley, Kansas all her life, she came to K.S.D. in 1933 as super- visor of the little first floor boys, ages 6 through 10. In 1952, with the opening of Emery Hall, she moved there as supervisor of the little girls. Her retirement this year marks the end of 31 years of faithful service to our school. That night Queen Jenean and her princesses ruled sovereign over the Homecoming Party in the gymnasium. There, the queen received the traditional necklace from her father. On December 14th the Nebraska School for the Deaf came to Olathe to lose two basketball games to our school. Kansas won the B team game 61-13, and the varsity trimmed Nebraska 61-X7. Between the games LeRoy Pywell was crowned Basketball King, and Lois Ellinger, Basketball Queen. After the games the Royal couple ruled over a party in the Student Center. Queen Lois King LeRoy 4 L The 1963 Iackrabbit football team was a distinct improvement over last year's team. When the season was over the record read 4 wins to 4 losses. Win or lose the Jackrabbits gave a good account of themselves. Next year's prospects are unusually bright as only three veterans will not return and there is a wealth of new material to work with. Added to this there were no serious injuries this year so next year should be a banner year for our football team. The 1963-64 basketball season was a disap- pointment for the Jackrabbits as they won 4 and lost 12. LeRoy Pywell played his best but lacked help from his team-mates when it was needed. This was definitely an off year for the 'Rabbits but they played the ame for all they were worth. Hete's goping next year will see the 'Rabbits back in the winner's column. KSD 31 KANSAS Vs. The most outstandin accomplishments ofthe team was a tie for tiird place at the annual Midwest Deaf Relays and second place in the JCALA league track meet. This is no indication that the 'Rabbits were not trying. There were plenty of individual winners in the various events but they were spread out too thin to enable KSD to win the meets. In the JCALA league meet the KSD relay teams won their events, setting a new league record in the Medley Relay. Ralph Gibbins turned in several fin performances in the mile during the season and may be expected to do much better this year. This ear will see quite a few veterans back and srould pro- duce victories for KSD. T'-ew 3 it ., ,eluate J. V. Sports W ,. 40 In the fall, the younger boys had a full program of football which had several games with independent teams from Kansas City, Kansas. During the basketball season the Cotton- tails won 4 and lost 5 games in MI-JO League competition. The Reserves went through a winless season. As this book oes to press they are start g - ing the 1964 track season which will see them in competition with grade school teams in this area. The program is under the direction of Dean Porter, Athletic Director. Mr. Joseph Hodnik serves as Grade School Coach and is assisted by several of the older boys who have finished their varsity competition. The training and experi- ence gained in grade school competition will stand the boys in good stead when they are ready to play on the Varsity. s 2 ermediate Class Advanced Class The girls, under the direction of Mary Belle Coll, Girls' Physical Education Director, en- joyed a full program of sports and games throughout the year. Our Volleyball team traveled to Nebraska and Missouri but was unable to break into the win ner's column although the team showed im- provement over last year's team. Swimming was popular with all the girls and they also enjoyed bowling. Hiking and out- door sports also came in or their share of attention.
