The Rangers took a 13-0 lead in the second quarter but Halfback Robert Jackson hit End Charles Moore for a 26-yard scoring play which kept the Redman hopes alive. Jackson again made a touchdown throw early in the fourth period, this time a 42-yard heave to End Bill Baker. Jackson evened the score at 20-20 on a 'IO-yard pass from Quarterback Jake Green- wood. Dan Sulivant's kick gave the Redmen a 1-point lead. Northeastern received some insurance only minutes later as Greenwood scored on a quarterback sneak. SOUTHEASTERN With Quarterback Jake Greenwood and Halfback Robert Jackson passing for 170 yards to lead the Northeastern offensive, the Redmen breezed by South- eastern 27-13 for their second league victory. Southeastern scored first in the game but the Redmen came back to score four times before South- eastern could score again. Lee Sampson opened the ll .nga I' rx c 'Sh-nl fs --1 -.. 3-Q. ...jf l' Redmen scoring. He was followed by Wayne Plum- mer's 6-pointer in the second period. Charles Moore took a pass from Greenwood to score again in the third period and Sampson wrapped up the Redman scoring on a 20-yard end run in the final period. The win left Northeastern on top in the OCC race. EAST CENTRAL The following week, the East Central Tigers came to town with nothing to lose and evervthing to gain. Before the night was over they had overcome a 14- point deficit and dumped the Redmen by a 27-14 score. This gave the Redmen their first conference loss of the season. Quarterback Jake Greenwood made a 1-yard plunge in the first quarter to open the scoring in the game. Halfback William Turner swept around end for six yards in the second period to give NSC its second touchdown. East Central came back strong, however, as they scored once in the second quarter, once in the third and twice in the fourth for the victory. LANGSTON With the 45-O defeat by Langston University Oc- tober 24 the Redmen were pushed out of the OCC race. It was becoming evident that a disastrous sea- son was in the making for the Redman footballers. The Redmen held the Lions during the scoreless first quarter but the Lions grabbed 19 points in the second and 18 more in the fourth for the victory. Langston's Donald Lee Smith was the outstanding player in the game as he passed for two touchdowns and went 48 yards on a punt return for another. Northeastern's only serious scoring threat came midway in the third quarter but ended with an in- terception by Langston. The defeat by Langston left the Redmen with a 2-3 win-loss record in conference play. CENTRAL STATE The Central State Broncs put the damper on the Redman hopes for a homecoming victory October 31 as they put on a free-scoring drive in the second half for a 37-21 win. End Charles Moore highlighted the Redman scoring in the second quarter as he grabbed one scoring pass and completed another to End Lee Sampson. This gave the Redmen a 14-13 halftime advantage. A 24-point barrage in the second half wrapped up the victory for Central. Halfback William Turner gave the old grads something to cheer about in the second half when he returned a kickoff 88 yards to give the Redmen a 21-13 lead. The rugged Broncho line cleared the way in the second half to overtake and then smother the Redman attack. ln the season finale played November 14 at Gable Field the Redmen again put up a good battle in the first half but fell short in the second half as Pittsburg State Teachers College snowed the Redmen 34-14. Halfback Robert Jackson passed to End Lee Samp- son in the second quarter to start off the scoring. The Kansans rebounded with six points but Sampson again caught a pass and scored, this time from Quar- terback James Gibson. Sparked by a speedy half- back, Paul Schliecher, the smallest man on the field, Pittsburg poured on the steam in the second half as they scored 28 points.
