' In this day and age we as Christian Americans live in a vicious circle. We tend to follow along with the crowd never stopping to make changes or examine our own lives. Sometimes, however, we should step out of this circle and examine the things that make up our CHRISTIAN HERITAGE. Our Heritage comes from many experiences, indivduals and traditions, but most important are the contributions made by individuals who have given us their time and dedication for the advancement of Youth for Christ. There have been many dedicated men of God who have passed through the ranks of Kansas City Youth for Christ, men who have contributed greatly to our Heritage. DEDICATION Leonard Rodgers is one of many men whose life is worthy of following. Q w His all-out dedication to the Lord has led him to the mission field in yQ Beirut, Lebanon. Even so have the great Christian leaders of our time shaped the lives of men, and so to Leonard Rodgers A CQNQUEROR H 1 W LEONARD RODGERS Leonard Rodgers is Kansas City Youth For Christ's own missionary to Beirut, Lebanon. He and his fam- ily have ministered through the medium of Youth For Christ this past school year in the Beirut area. Y 2 gb-is Q g, V12 m Tig? HIFI? ' 1 . -- A . . i ':. Q .QV AL METSKER The national heritage of Youth for Christ began in Kansas City twnety-one years ago under the direction of a dedicated man -- A1 Metsker. Since then, Youth for Christ has spread across this na- tion and around the world. . .thanks to the effort of burdened men such as Al. Teenagers from Kansas City have not been left unaffected by the example and guidance A1 has given them. His home and heart are always open for fun, fellowship, and counsel. The Metskers: Martha, Ronnie, Vidy, Al, and Marilyn Fr-ank's preacher boys were invited to spend the weekend with A1 at his farm. A1 speaks to the Dads' Club as his able club directors listen closely. olcK I-lA1jFlEl.D Bubbling over viith enthusiasm about Christ is Dick Hatfield. As head of the senior High Depalftmem, Dick has shown superior leadership and ability to direct young people. As managing editor of the YFC yearbook past years, Dick has shown his skill as an able leader. This. man's testimony and drive is of such strength that asa Christian leader he will surely excel. DAVE KOJSER 1963-64 marks the second year of YFC work for Dave h re inK. C. His projects this year have i cluded Collegiate Club and rally tranx portation. Upon first acquaintance, D ve's most notable char- acteristic is an cibvious sense of humor. But no one can truly know him without realizing the dee burden he has for teens in Kansas City. His original ideas have made him highly Wuccessful as a director. HARRYJOHNSON The personality of Harry Johnson evolves around two main characteristics: ambition andadyivingforce never to stop. If there is any department in YFC that depends on one person alone , it would be the radio department in its association with Harry. His goal has been to reach those not influenced by rallies and clubs in the Kansas City areawith the message of the Gospel of' Jesus Christ. This dedication has greatly influenced both participants and audiences in the YFC program. FRANK BUSSEY This is the first year of full-time YFC work for Frank Bussey, a graduate of Moody Bible Institute. The effect of K.C. YFC upon Frank's life is obvious. His main interest is contacting teens per- sonally with Christ's message of love. But more than this, Frank wants to see Christian teenagers grow to study God's Word and to know what they believe. Be- cause of this goal, Frank was placed in charge of the quiz program this year. STEVE PETERSON Taking over asj head of the Junior High Department has een a big step in the life of Steve. His esponsibilities have in- creased, and wtith it has come a deeper burden for Junior high teens across the city This burdeh has broadened to Steve's vision of the mission field. His dynamic personality and! friendly smile have won him many friend P I 1 X S. 1 Boa CAFVIERON After two year-sy of club work, Bob has learned the heart-beat of teens. His first step to this goal was taken three years ago when he was the director of Northeast Club. Upon graduation from Calvary Bible College last spring, Glen accepted a full-time position as a Junior High Club Director. Thus, his goal has finally been met, even to the extent that he married his favorite girl - Miss Anna Andrus. This couple is lookingforward to a fruitful ministry and a blessed future. LEONARD ROGERS Since September 1963, Leonard Rodgers has been serving the Lord in Beirut, Lebanon. There he is carrying on the work of Youth for Christ. His deep bur- den for the teens of Lebanon has grown deeper as he has seen their needs. Along with his wife, Pauline, and two children, Leonard has had afruitful ministry during these past months. Our prayers go forth to this servant of the Lord. l l 1 JACK couysms The failure or successxof Youth for Christ depends greatly on the tireless efforts of Jack Cousins, who secures speakers and music for the Saturday night rallies. As Public Relations Director for YFC and Executive Secretary of the Kansas City Evangelical Ministers? Fellowship, Jack's dedication and loyalty to Christ has been a blessing to many. 'Truly the Lord is using this man who goes out of his way to promote Christ as wehl as others. 1 Y N w Y 1 Y 4 MARGE PALMER Long hours of hard work are put into the task of private secretary to Jack Cousins. With this job comes the responsibility of correspondingwith potential and previous Youth for Christ speakers across the country. Another aspect of her work is the organizing, ltyping, and lay-out of the Conquest. Margie's enthusiasm and ambition have ade her job a success. l V J l ALBERT LANE J A friendly smile, a hand shake, and a heartfullof love describes our beloved Albert. His faithfulness to Christ has given him many opportunities to guide and help those who are in need of spiritual uplifting. Along with his outstanding talent at the keyboard, A1bert's testimony can be seen in his willingness to serve God whenever he is needed. OEJEFFERS Joe is an outstanding man in the field of printing. He. has turned over all his time and talent to the Lord, and as a result has made an effective contribution in the pro- motion of Christ through the medium of Youth for Christ. Joe's patience and hard work has proved to be a great asset in the success of this ministry. i FERN RIOHERT Good morning, this is Youth for Christ. This is a familiar phrase heard by those who call the C office. Behind this cheerful greetin is the charming person- ality of our receptionist Fern Richert. Besides answering the telephone, Fern's duties extend into the Film Department where she keeps aconstant record of film scheduling. LEONA HDCKLANDER This year marks the tenth year of service for Leona. Vifithout the loyalty of our accurate book eeper the organization of YFC would not eable to run as efficiently as it does day after day. The yearbook staff seems to be one of the biggest and most exciting committees on which a YFC clubber has opportunity to work. Many people enjoy the art of creating layout and promotional ideas, others enjoy giving assistance in process- ing each individual picture on every page. The knowledge gained from one year on the yearbook staff is more than equal to the same amount of time spent as an apprentice in a similar situation. The teenagers are given the opportunity to see and actually do many parts of the book that the high school yearbook staff never touch. Without the suggestive ideas each year-'s yearbook has little on which to go. The variety of opinions and personalities make the book very personal to the many types of individuals to which it goes. Such was the case this year as these twelve staff members made this book. Individual ideas are put together Finished layout is photographed. Finished layout is proofrresd. The films are used by clubs, churches, and rallies in a 10--state area. The films range in topic from Salvation to Christian growth, from science to dating relationships. It can truly be said that the film library has a unique ministry. Records must be kept to insure the correct handling of the films. Checking the films before a showing is Ro11y's biggest responsibility. The dependable, and popular, Nash Rambler takes many films to the post office each day. The repair of the projectors is very important also. The stacks of paper, the smell of ink, and the clicking sound of the press are everyday conditions for the YFC Print Shop. The Print Shop facilities at Youth For Christ are ever expanding. Joe Jeffers, full time professional P R I N I S H 6 P printer, and Dan Hocklander part time assistant, enjoy fulfilling their part of the YFC ministry through the medium of printing. All layout and art work come from the The developing of all film and prints are drawing board. done in our own darkroom. Additional help from both the Bible and tracts are given by the desk counselors. FOLLOW'UP Marge Palmer keeps an accurate record of the follow-up materials for each individual decision. When a person indicates that he wishes to make a decision for Christ in a Youth for Christ meeting, he is led to the Lord by a well-trained counselor, and is given instruction on living the Christian life and how to maintain a daily quiet time. lm- mediatelyg the Youth for Christ office follows-up this decision with a series of lessons that are especially designed to meet the spiritual needs ofa new convert. The new Christian is also contacted by his club director or club officer and welcomed and encouraged in his Christian life. The perfect way to start the day. This is just one statement that is true of the Youth for Christ Hour. Our radio program, which is heard twice daily, broadcasts the message of a living Christ. Its unique presentation of .ideas and its gift for challenging you to live for Christ daily, has made its thirteen years on the air, years filled with hope and inspiration.
